MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT AT the 156oo BLOCK OF MONTANA (RED-SANDS AREA)

EL PASO, TX – On November 19, 2023, El Paso County Sheriff's Office Deputies responded to Red Sands, located at 15600 Montana in El Paso County, regarding a welfare check of a person who had been run over by an off-roading vehicle as the victim had sustained severe injuries. Special Traffic investigators were requested to the scene, upon investigation, it was determined that the male victim was run over by a Jeep-type SUV with damage to its front left (driver) side. The driver of the Jeep failed to remain on scene and provide aid to the victim. The victim was transported to an area hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries and died.

The El Paso County Sheriff's Office Special Traffic Investigations unit is asking the public for information about the driver and vehicle that struck the victim. Traffic investigators can be contacted through Sheriff's Office dispatch at 915 832-4408.

Upon arrival, they discovered that a 37-year-old male had been hit by a vehicle, and he was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. At this time, there is no further information as the investigation continues.

CAREER DAY AT SAGELAND ELEMENTARY

EL PASO, TX On the morning of November 17, 2023, the deputies, and detectives from the El Paso County Sheriff's Office Northwest Patrol Station attended a career day event held at Sageland Elementary School. Various presentations were conducted for different groups of students, focusing on enlightening them about the daily responsibilities of deputies in the field and the essential skills required to become a part of the law enforcement team of the Sheriff's Office. Additionally, the students actively participated in equipment demonstrations and displayed significant interest in pursuing law enforcement careers offered by our office.

Most Wanted Fugitives Week of November 17, 2023

SHERIFF’S OFFICE CONDOLENCES TO THE FAMILY AND FRIENDS OF EDWARD BUNDTON

EL PASO, TX It is with deep regret to announce Edward Bunton's demise at 70, which occurred at his residence in El Paso, TX, on Monday, October 23, 2023. Edward was born in St. Louis, Missouri, to the late Ira Bunton and Amelia Spoonhouer.

He devoted his life to safeguarding others, fulfilling his duties as a Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputy and serving as a range master at the El Paso County Sheriff's Office, where he commenced employment in March 2011.

He held the position of Range Master at the Region VIII Training Academy, overseeing the Office's Firearms Training and Qualifications. With a tenure of 20 years in Law Enforcement, he concluded his career with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department after serving for 16 ½ years. Mr. Bunton has fulfilled various roles during his time, including that of a Field Training Officer, Custody Division Line Supervisor, and former member of the Special Enforcement Bureau – Special Weapons Team (SWAT). Moreover, he was assigned to the Weapons Training Unit – Laser Village within the Advanced Officer Training Bureau.

Mr. Bunton possessed an Advanced Peace Officer Certificate from the Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training from the State of California. Throughout his career, he was experienced as an Instructor and Certified in the following subjects. Special Weapons and Tactics School Instructor, Arwen 37 Instructor and Armorer, Diversionary Device / Stingball Instructor, Short Handle Baton Instructor ( both PR-24 and Handler 12 ), Officer Safety and Field Tactics Instructor, Oceoresin Capsicum Instructor, Chemical Weapons and Agents Instructor, Training for Trainers Instructor, Dignitary Protection and Caravan Driving Instructor. Aircraft Hijacking Assault School Instructor, Long Rifle Counter-Sniper Weapons Instructor, Situational Planning and Tactical Diagramming Instructor, TCLEOSE Instructor, TCLEOSE Firearms Instructor, FBI Firearms, Sub-Machine Gun and Long Rifle Instructor, Taser Instructor, PPCT Defensive Tactics Instructor and AED-CPR-BLS Instructor. He is a certified Glock & Colt Armorer.

BURGLARY OF HABITATION AND RESISTING ARREST - WRIGHT

SHERIFF’S OFFICE RELEASE

EL PASO, TX On November 10, 2023, El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Deputies assigned to the Northwest Patrol Station were dispatched to the 1300 block of Clipper Road in reference to a burglary of habitation in progress. Upon arrival, deputies met with the victim, who they saw coming out of a window. The victim advised the deputies that a male subject had forced himself into her home, and he was still inside. Deputies had to make forced entry into the residence, where they met with the male subject, but he refused to follow verbal commands. The male subject resisted the deputies while they attempted to place him under arrest. Deputies took the subject in custody, and he was identified as 31-year-old RayVaughn Wright.

Wright was arrested and charged with burglary, habitation, and resisting arrest. He was then processed and confined in the El Paso County Detention Facility. Wright’s bond was set at $10,000 for the burglary of habitation charge and $3,500 for the resisting arrest charge.

FAMILY DOLLAR LIVE REMOTES

During the holiday season, Sheriff Richard D. Wiles and the El Paso County Sheriff's Office will be collaborating with Family Dollar and 104.3 HitFM to gather toys for our esteemed "Santa with a Badge" Toy Drive. Toys will be diligently collected at various designated Family Dollar Store locations across El Paso County. With the assistance and support of the community, we aim to gather a substantial quantity of toys to positively impact the children residing in the unincorporated regions of El Paso County, who may otherwise be deprived of the joy of unwrapping presents on Christmas morning. Santa's Workshop will now be busy wrapping and distributing toys. Toys and monetary donations may still be delivered to the Community Service Section at the Sheriff's Office's headquarters at 3850 Justice Dr., El Paso, TX 79938. The final date for accepting donations is December 8th, 2023.

EL PASO, TX – On November 9, 2023, Ricardo Estrada Middle School organized a soccer match between the El Paso County Sheriff's Office School Resource Officers and the teachers vs the student team. Over three hundred students graced this remarkable occasion, allowing them to interact with the deputies. Throughout the morning, students engaged in dancing, laughter, exuberant shouts, and enthusiastic cheers, thoroughly relishing every moment of the game. Following the game's conclusion, Deputy Omar Gonzalez, Vice President of the El Paso County Sheriff's Officer Association, kindly prepared burgers for the esteemed administration and staff members at Ricardo Estrada Middle School. We sincerely aspire to establish this occasion as an annual celebration, and we eagerly anticipate the presence of all attendees in the forthcoming year.

ACTIVE SHOOTER PRESENTATION AT E.P. DENTISTRY – ZARAGOZA LOCATION

Dentistry, 1502 N. Zaragoza. The presentation aims to assist civilians in understanding what they should do in case of an active shooter event. The course is based on ALERT's AVOID, DENY, and DEFEND strategies, providing guidance, strategies, and a plan for surviving an active shooter event.

EL PASO, TX On November 10th, 2023, the El Paso County Sheriff's Office Community Service Section, Explorer Post 2005, the El Paso County Sheriff's Office Honor Guard, Patrol Commander Ryan Urrutia, and Laura Urrutia celebrated the Northeast Veterans Day Parade with Flags Across America. The parade started at the Texas National Guard off Hondo Pass and proceeded towards Old Glory Memorial. Many organizations participated, including floats, marching bands, military groups, and more, to the delight of several spectators. The Sheriff's Office has been participating for several years, honoring the brave men and women who have selflessly served our nation. This day is an opportunity to honor our veterans' sacrifices and unwavering dedication. We thank the veterans within our ranks for continuing to protect and serve our community with the same passion and commitment they displayed in the military. Your invaluable skills, experience, and resilience positively impact our agency and the people we serve. We extend our heartfelt appreciation to all the veterans in our community. DOWNTOWN VETERANS DAY PARADE 2023

EL PASO, TX – On November 11th, 2023, the El Paso County Sheriff's Office Community Service Section and Explorer Post 2005 celebrated the Downtown Veterans Day Parade with the United American Veterans Organization of El Paso. The parade started at the intersection of Myrtle and Florence and proceeded towards beautiful downtown El Paso, ending at the intersection of Texas and Florence. The event saw the participation of numerous organizations, including floats, marching bands, and military groups, which delighted several spectators.

The Sheriff's Office participated in this event for the first time, honoring the brave men and women who have selflessly served the nation, alongside the Sheriff's Office 2015 Ford Explorer, commemorating our fallen Deputy Peter John Herrera and the 2005 GMC Hummer. It was an opportunity to honor our veterans' sacrifices and unwavering dedication. We thank the veterans within our ranks for continuing to protect and serve our community with the same passion and commitment they displayed in the military. Their invaluable skills, experience, and resilience positively impact our agency and the people we serve.
