SANTA WITH A BADGE – TOY DRIVE
FAMILY DOLLAR LIVE REMOTES
During the holiday season, Sheriff Richard D. Wiles and the El Paso County Sheriff's Office will be collaborating with Family Dollar and 104.3 HitFM to gather toys for our esteemed "Santa with a Badge" Toy Drive. Toys will be diligently collected at various designated Family Dollar Store locations across El Paso County. With the assistance and support of the community, we aim to gather a substantial quantity of toys to positively impact the children residing in the unincorporated regions of El Paso County, who may otherwise be deprived of the joy of unwrapping presents on Christmas morning. Santa's Workshop will now be busy wrapping and distributing toys. Toys and monetary donations may still be delivered to the Community Service Section at the Sheriff's Office's headquarters at 3850 Justice Dr., El Paso, TX 79938. The final date for accepting donations is December 8th, 2023.

-
November 28, 2023
EL PASO, TEXAS – On November 27, 2023, Detention Officers assigned to the El Paso County Jail Annex found an inmate inside his cell who was unresponsive. Medical staff immediately responded in an attempt to provide medical aid. However, it was determined that the inmate was deceased. The El Paso County Sheriff's Office Major Crime Unit and Texas Rangers were requested and began an investigation. During the investigation, it was discovered that the inmate had been assaulted and that his death was a result of a homicide. The deceased inmate was identified as Jesus Torres, 57 years of age. Detectives identified six inmates assigned to the same cellblock who are responsible for causing the death of Torres. Warrants were obtained for these six inmates, and they have been subsequently rebooked on the added charges. Jail administrators from both the Downtown Facility and the Jail Annex are currently working on separating inmates (to include placing certain inmates in individual "lock-down" cells) in anticipation of potential retaliation over this homicide.
