NEWS RELEASE-- SHATTERED DREAMS PRESENTATION AT IRVIN HIGH SCHOOL

EL PASO, TEXAS - On November 19, 2024, the El Paso County Sheriff's Office participated in a DWI presentation at Irvin High School called Shattered Dreams. Law enforcement officials, first responders, and various agencies collaborated to orchestrate a DWI crash simulation. This educational program, facilitated by BorderRAC, seeks to enlighten high school students on the repercussions of driving under the influence of alcohol. The primary participants in the event were students. The incident commenced with a 911 call being placed from the site of the occurrence. Subsequently, emergency responders were dispatched with lights and sirens activated. A medical helicopter arrived to transport the injured individuals. The Medical Examiner took the deceased body. Following this, the driver was apprehended by Sheriff's Deputies. She was escorted to the Downtown Detention Facility to confer with the magistrate. Then, she underwent the booking process, which included fingerprinting, inventorying of her belongings, and capturing her mug shot. Subsequently, she underwent an X-ray examination in order to prevent the presence of any prohibited items within a highly secure facility. Following this, she was provided with the appropriate custody uniform corresponding to her classification. Subsequently, she was securely placed in a designated cell. The Students then all rallied back to the high school.

NEWS RELEASE- Career day at Hellen Ball Elementary

EL PASO, TEXAS – The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Detention Officers from the Jail Annex participated in Career Day at Hellen Ball Elementary School. They demonstrated a typical day in the life of a detention officer. The Paws Officers also shared information about their community role and Cadet Kalony from the Animal Rescue League. Together, they provided information to 120 students ranging from Pre-Kindergarten to 5th grade.

MENTORING OUR FUTURE PROGRAM- LUNCH WITH COPS EVENT AT MOUNTAIN VIEW HIGH SCHOOL.

EL PASO, TEXAS – On November 15, 2024, the El Paso County Sheriff's Office Montana Patrol Station (MPS), in collaboration with the Major Crimes Unit (MCU) and the Special Victims Unit (SVU), held a Lunch with Cops event as part of the "Mentoring Our Future Program. During the event, sergeants, and detectives from the MCU and SVU delivered presentations to students about the units' roles and responsibilities within the Sheriff's Office. The detectives explained investigative procedures related to severe crimes, covering topics such as forensic interviews, search warrants, autopsies, and court procedures. The sergeants and detectives from the MCU and SVU also provided guidance, answered questions, shared stories, and fostered a welcoming environment for students interested in law enforcement. Additionally, the MCU and SVU units generously supplied pizzas, drinks, and snacks for attendees. This relationship-building program is designed to strengthen community partnerships, enhance youth outreach, and provide guidance and support to future law enforcement professionals.

NEWS RELEASE- Motor Vehicle Accident at Gateway West and Timothy Dr.

EL PASO, TEXAS – On November 17, 2024, at approximately 5:20 PM, the El Paso County Sheriff's Office responded to a motor vehicle collision involving a car and a semi-truck at Gateway West Boulevard and Timothy Drive. Following the incident, one person was taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. The intersection at Timothy Drive will remain closed for about two hours. No further information is available at this time.

NEWS RELEASE- Motor Vehicle Accident on the 14100 block of North Loop.

EL PASO, TEXAS – Deputies from the El Paso County Sheriff's Office responded to a motor vehicle accident involving a vehicle and a tractor in the 14100 block of North Loop on Saturday, November 16, at around 9:00 AM. No injuries were reported. The 14100 block of North Loop will be closed in both east and west directions for approximately two hours.

NEWS RELEASE- Burglary of Coin Operating Machine

EL PASO, TEXAS – On November 10, 2024, at 0653 hours, Deputies from the Deputy Peter J. Herrera Patrol Station were dispatched to 13178 Alameda Ave (Clint Laundromat) in El Paso County, TX, in reference to a burglary in progress. Deputies arrived and located a vehicle in the area matching the description provided and detained 37-year-old Claudia Cardenas and 29-year-old Lorraine Allen. Deputies located 29-year-old Jesus Vargas, who was on foot attempting to conceal himself nearby. Vargas was found to have an outstanding criminal warrant for Poss CS PG 1/1-B <1G. Surveillance footage revealed that all three subjects were involved in burglarizing a coin machine at the business. A burglary tool and several coins were located inside the vehicle. All three subjects were subsequently taken into custody and booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility without incident with the following charges: Claudia Cardenas: Burglary of Coin Operating Machine & Fail to Identify Giving False/Fictitious Info. Lorraine Allen: Burglary of Coin Operating Machine. Jesus Vargas: Burglary of Coin Operating Machine & Poss CS PG 1/1-B <1G.

NEWS RELEASE- OPERATION “SAFE TREATS” TRUNK OR TREAT COMMUNITY EVENT

EL PASO, TEXAS – Deputies from the Peter J. Herrera Patrol Station along with Constable Precinct 6 hosted their annual free Halloween community event located at 190 San Elizario Rd. This year we were able to deliver an interactive free event in which several community members, businesses and organizations participated in decorating their trunks and had interactive activites and prizes for the children in attendance. Food and drinks were also passed out while families enjoyed the festivities. Deputies took advantage and interacted with the children and their families as they passed out candy, children fingerprint identification kits, fentanyl information packets, played games and reminded them of practicing safe habbits and being on the lookout for potential adulterated candy during the Halloween season.

UPDATE –
EL PASO TEXAS - Upon the arrival of the unit, Rick Ballard, a 29-year-old male subject, was found dead on the scene; Dalia Olivas, a 28-year-old female, was transported to a local hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries. The offender will be arrested for two counts of intoxication and manslaughter upon release from the hospital.
EL PASO, TEXAS – On November 2,2024, at 2337 Hours, East Montana Patrol Deputies were dispatched to the intersection of Rojas and Eastlake regarding an accident involving two vehicles. Upon arrival, the Deputies, along with first responders, found 3 subjects with serious injuries. The investigation is ongoing, and the area has been secured. Special Traffic Investigators were requested. The intersection will be closed until further notice. At this time, we have an estimated closure time of at least 6 hours. There is no additional information available at this time.

NEWS RELEASE- ATV INCIDENT AT THE 1200 BLOCK of MITCHELL DR.

EL PASO, TEXAS UPDATE - Emergency responders arrived promptly after a call was placed to 911 by a passerby. Despite efforts to assist, 19-year-old Aflfredo Fedrico was pronounced deceased at the scene.
EL PASO, TEXAS – On November 2, 2024, at 11:12 AM, El Paso County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a call involving an ATV. The incident occurred in the desert area of the 1200 block of Mitchell Dr., in El Paso County, Texas.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are investigating potential factors such as speed, terrain conditions, and equipment issues that may have contributed to the accident. The Sheriff’s Office also reminds the public always to wear helmets and protective gear when operating ATVs and adhere to all safety regulations. We urge everyone to exercise caution and follow safety protocols when operating any vehicle, including ATVs.

Trunk or Treat Event at Starbucks
EL PASO, TEXAS – On 10/29/2024 at approximately 1700 hrs., El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Deputies from the East Montana Patrol Station hosted in partnership with Starbuck a “Trunk or Treat” event. The event took place at the Starbuck located at 3400 Edgemere Blvd. Deputies were able to interact with the kids and distribute candy for Halloween. This event was intended to strengthen community partnerships with local businesses, enhance youth outreach, and provide guidance and safety tips to members of the community during Halloween festivities.

NEWS RELEASE- Red Ribbon presentation at Bill Childress Elementary

EL PASO, TEXAS – On October 30th, 2024, deputies from the Northwest Patrol Station participated in a Red Ribbon presentation at Bill Childress Elementary located at 7700 Cap Carter. The presentation was to educate students from Pre-k through 5th grade about the dangers of drugs. The presentation covered topics such as the different types of drugs and the negative effects of drug usage. Deputies emphasized on the importance of making healthy choices and to saying “NO” to drugs.
