El Paso, TX – On August 29, 2021 El Paso County Sheriff’s Office participated in the 6th Annual Northeast Regional Command Community Fair 2021. This event is sponsored by the City of El Paso Parks and Recreation to Recognize and Honor the 20th Anniversary of 9/11. The event took place at the Northeast Regional Park, located at 11270 McCombs, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. The event showcases businesses, city entities, charitable organizations, schools and local entertainment for the Northeast community. The event had free health screenings, food trucks, live DJ, military, law enforcement and first responder vehicles on display.

August 24, 2021 El Paso, Texas – On August 21, 2021, at 0028 hours El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Deputies were dispatched to the 15500 block of Union Ave. El Paso, County Texas, in reference to shots fired. Deputies arrived and discovered that during an altercation were, shots fired and as a result, a 22-year-old male was struck in the neck. The male was transported to a local area hospital and is currently in critical condition. CAR SEAT EVENT AT WM DAVID SURRATT ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

El Paso, Texas – The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office in partnership with the Texas Department of Transportation, DPS, and Fire Department held its 1st Car Seat Event since COVID on August 18th, 2021 at WM David Surratt Elementary school.
The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office along with the Texas Department of Transportation, DPS, and Fire Department were able to assist 18 children, provide 15 car seats and destroy 12 car seats that were no longer safe. Special thanks to El Paso County Sheriff’s Deputies, Edward Ortega, Eduardo Placencia, Claudia Graziano, Carolina Perez and Jorge Alvillar for their participative efforts.

KIDNAPPING IN TORNILLO TX

El Paso, Texas – On Friday, August 20th, 2021, El Paso County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to the 19000 block of in Tornillo, TX in reference to a Kidnapping. Upon arrival deputies learned, Angel Elias, 18 forced entry into the residence and abducted a female subject by force. Elias also stole property from the residence as he left. The female subject was located nearby with minor injuries. Elias was later located and taken in into custody without incident. He was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility under a $100,000 bond.

MOST WANTED TAKEN INTO CUSTODY- CERVANTES JOHNNY

El PASO TX, – On August 23, 2021, at approximately 08:30 a.m. El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Deputies assigned to the Fugitive Apprehension / Warrants Division conducted an investigation on a crime stoppers tip. The tip advised that the wanted felon was in the El Paso area and living with his parents.
Johnny Cervantes, had been featured on El Paso’s Most Wanted on 10-19-2018. Through investigation, an address was located for the parents of the wanted felon. Fugitive Apprehension/Warrants Division Deputies and Clint Patrol Deputies located the wanted felon at the 14000 block of Escalera in Horizon City Texas. The wanted felon was taken into custody without incident. He was booked on the following warrants: 2 Counts of Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity with No bond.

El Paso, TX –.The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Community Services Section held training for the Sheriff’s Office Explorer Post 2005 on Wednesday, August 18th, 2021.
Explorers continued their training and participation in the explorer post with learning how to process a crime scene scenario. This training included the process of dusting and lifting latent prints from glass surfaced areas. In addition, Explorers were shown how to measure, photograph and diagram a crime scene.
The goal of the Explorer Post is to afford an opportunity to young adults of the community to observe, participate and learn about law enforcement. The explorer post and its advisors provide explorers with education, training, and important information upon which to base their decision to pursue a career in law enforcement.

El Paso, Texas – On Friday, August 13, 2021, El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Deputies assigned to the East Montana Patrol Station arrived at Red Sands Elementary for “Field Day”. Deputies spent time with students during their lunch time and interacted with them by playing soccer and other activities. Deputies also assisted School Resource Officer Deputy with lockdown procedures in cases of an active shooter. Deputies explained to students where they need to hide in cases of emergency.
Deputies explained to teachers and other staff what protocol they need to follow to secure the school and keep the students safe. Students and staff really enjoyed the presence of law enforcement.

Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Driving While Intoxicated

El Paso, Texas – On Monday, August 9th, 2021 at 9:02 a.m., El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Deputies were dispatched to the 14000 block of Antwerp Street in El Paso County, Texas in reference to an unknown problem. The investigation revealed that a road rage incident occurred in the area between Joshua Anthony Moreno, 19 and another male subject shortly prior to the 911 call. Moreno struck the male subject’s vehicle and attempted to strike him, as he exited his vehicle. Moreno showed signs of intoxication and was subsequently placed under arrest and charged with Driving While Intoxicated and Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. Moreno was booked in to the El Paso County Jail and is being held with a bond of $25,000.00 for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and $1,000.00 for Driving While Intoxicated.

PARENTS AS TEACHERS PROGRAM Event

El Paso, Texas – On 7/24/21 El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Deputies from the Northwest Station assisted United Way of El Paso County with an event held at Hidden Valley Park (200 Coconut Tree, El Paso TX). United Way of El Paso County teamed up with our local community to offer the Parents as Teachers Program. Parents as Teachers (PAT) is a free home visitation program that works to increase parents’ knowledge of early child development and helps prepare children for school.
To show appreciation for the families who have participated in the program, United Way of El Paso County decided to have a gathering at Hidden Valley Park. At the event the Sheriff’s Office Deputies set up a booth and handed out information reference car seat safety, coloring books that teach child safety, and pamphlets with information on school zone safety. Deputies allowed the children who attended to take a look inside patrol cars.

MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT FATALITY

El Paso, Texas – On August 1, 2021, at 9:30 p.m., El Paso County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to 16200 Montana in reference to a single vehicle roll over. Upon arrival, Deputies discovered an unresponsive male driver. On-scene medics confirmed Obdulio Huiton, 58, had no signs of life and was pronounced dead on scene. Female passenger was transported to Del Sol Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. Special Traffic Investigators, Crime Scene, and Medical Examiner’s Office were requested to the scene. The investigation was turned over to Special Traffic Investigators.

DRIVING WHILE INTOXICATED MANSLAUGHTER ARREST

August 2, 2021
El Paso, Texas – On August 1, 2021, at approximately 0129 hours, El Paso County Sheriff’s Office deputies were dispatched to Interstate 10, mile marker 55 in reference to a motor vehicle accident. Special Traffic Investigators determined that a vehicle was traveling the wrong way on the westbound lanes causing the head-on collision.
The wrong-way driver struck another vehicle, driven by Mayvel Alexandra Morales, 33 years of age, head-on as she was traveling westbound on the inside lane. A total of seven passengers were transported by Life to Del Sol Medical Center and El Paso Children’s Hospital. Morales later succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced deceased. Next of kin notification was made at the hospital.
Mario Ernesto Martel, driver of the vehicle traveling the wrong way showed signs of intoxication and was placed under arrest and booked into the El Paso County Jail for Intoxication manslaughter.

THEFT OF VEHICLE & DRIVING WHILE INTOXICATED

El Paso, Texas – On 07/31/2021, at approximately 10 a.m., El Paso County Sheriff's Office Deputies were dispatched to Vanderveer and Santisteban in the Montana Vista area reference to a Theft of Vehicle. Officers were advised that a Kenworth box truck had been stolen in the city of El Paso.
While responding, Deputies discovered that the offender had collided with multiple stop signs and a traffic barrier. Deputies were able to locate the vehicle and Offender at the 1300 block of N. Ascension and subsequently took the offender, Sotero Holguin, 33, into custody. Holguin was charged with Driving while Intoxicated, Accident Involving Damage, and Theft of Vehicle.
