EL PASO, TEXAS On October 18, 2024, Members of the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, with the help of the El Paso County Sheriff’s Officer Association, participated in a soccer match to raise funds for the Clint Early College Academy soccer team as they embark on a new challenge. Clint Early College Academy Patriots FC will be playing other soccer teams from Early Colleges around El Paso County in their new upcoming soccer season. Students at the Clint Early College Academy played against the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office in an 11 vs. 11 match on their soccer field. Both teams gave spectators and participants a fun experience. Students and staff shared the excitement as they cheered for their team.

NEWS RELEASE - "A DAY IN THE LIFE OF" EVENT FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT STUDENTS

EL PASO, TEXAS – On October 18, 2024, the El Paso County Sheriff's Office Montana Patrol Station (MPS) held its "A Day in the Life of" event as part of the "Mentoring Our Future Program." This initiative aims to foster meaningful mentorship connections with students in criminal justice programs at local schools under the MPS command.

During the event, MPS detectives and deputies from the Criminal Investigations Targeted Response Unit (CITRU) spent the day with fifteen Mountain View High School Law Enforcement Program law enforcement students. The students toured the Montana Patrol Station and received training on the daily activities and responsibilities of deputies, detectives, sergeants, and lieutenants.

The El Paso County Sheriff's Officers Association generously provided pizzas, drinks, and snacks for the students. Additionally, the students visited the El Paso County Sheriff's Office Region VIII Training Academy, where they met academy instructors and learned about the daily life of a cadet during training. They also learned about the traditions and commemorations of Sgt. Ruben Orozco and Deputy Peter John Herrera.

The visit included a tour of the EPSO Fire Range, where the students met USPSA National Shooting Champion and Fire Range Instructor Justin Martinez. They participated in a critical incident simulator, gaining insights into officer safety, de-escalation techniques, and the use of force continuum.

This relationship-building program is designed to strengthen community partnerships, enhance youth outreach, and provide guidance and support to future law enforcement professionals.

NEWS RELEASE- DRUG AWARENESS PRESENTATION AT OPTIONS HIGH SCHOOL

EL PASO, TEXASThe drug awareness presentation conducted by the El Paso County Sheriff's Office Deputies on October 21, 2024, at Options High School was vital in educating the students about the dangers of substance abuse. The deputies from the Community Service Division took the time to explain the consequences of drug use thoroughly and provided valuable information on how to seek help and support.

The students, ranging from 9th to 12th grade, eagerly participated in the discussion, showing a genuine interest in learning about the impact of drugs on individuals and communities.

The engagement from the 150 students in attendance, along with the faculty and staff, highlighted the importance of spreading awareness about drug abuse among the youth. By addressing the issue early, the deputies aimed to empower the students to make informed decisions and resist peer pressures that may lead them down a destructive path.

Overall, the drug awareness presentation served as a proactive measure to equip the students at Options High School with the knowledge and resources needed to navigate the challenges of adolescence and make healthy choices for their future. The partnership between law enforcement and educational institutions is crucial in promoting a safe and drug-free environment for all community members.

NEWS RELEASE- MISSING PERSON – THOMPSON YUNCHA H.

EL PASO, TEXAS An elderly woman, estimated to be around 75 years of age, resides at a caretaker's residence located at 420 Halstead in Horizon, Texas. The woman is suffering from dementia. She was last seen wearing a plaid black, grey, and white shirt, black leggings, and pink slippers.

The woman exited the residence on foot, and her direction of travel is currently unknown. She does not have a cell phone in her possession. The last sighting of her at the residence was around 1510 hours.

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT – SCAMMERS FRAUDULENTLY SELLING VACANT LAND

EL PASO, TEXAS The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office has received several complaints and has seen an increase in the fraudulent selling of land. The scammers are focusing on vacant land lots and putting them up for sale and selling them to unsuspecting victims to which they do not own, causing Victims significant financial losses.

Scammers employ various tactics to avoid detection such as:

  • They target unencumbered property, vacant land with no signs, often on unimproved or unincorporated areas of the County.
  • Estate properties where ownership has not been transferred to heirs and are still under the name of recently deceased.
  • Scammers will push for quick sales and attempt to sell the land an under-market pricing.
  • Seller might avoid meeting in person and often use burner phones or use phone applications that allows them to use a temporary number, or will attempt to make all communication through applications such as WhatsApp or similar.
  • They will insist in using their chosen e-notary or arranging notarizations themselves and refuse in person signings. Will often use excuse that they are out of town, don’t reside in El Paso anymore and are just trying to get rid of the property or similar to avoid meeting in person.
  • They will demand cash transactions and direct sales to individuals not listed on property title or deed.

We recommend everyone interested in buying land to investigate the property and confirm ownership before entering agreements. We also recommend using broker, listing agent or other professional guidance to ensure the sale is legitimate.

Don’t fall Victim to these types of scams, do your research before it’s too late. We encourage the public to report any suspicious activity.

NEWS RELEASE- MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT MILE MARKER 45

EL PASO, TEXAS On October 16, 2024, at approximately 9:30 a.m., El Paso County Sheriff's Office Deputies were dispatched to a call for a Motor vehicle accident at mile marker 45 on I-10 east involving three vehicles, including a semi-tractor trailer. No injuries were reported. The road is closed at mile marker 45. Please use an alternate route and exit at the Clint exit. Travel South on N Clint San Elizario Rd to North Loop. Travel eastbound on North Loop to N Fabens Rd. Travel northbound on N Fabens Rd to I10 eastbound. The road will be open in approximately 1 hour.

NEWS RELEASE- Wanted Subject Arrest - ARANDA ROMAN

EL PASO, TEXAS On October 10, 2024, El Paso County Sheriff's Office Deputies assigned to the Peter J. Herrera Patrol Station Deputies located 27-year-old Roman Aranda, wanted for Aggravated Sexual Assault and Aggravated Kidnapping/Sexual Abuse. Deputies made contact with Aranda at his residence and took him into custody without incident. Aranda was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility with a no bond as a result of violating probation conditions.

Roman Aranda was previously arrested for DWI after colliding with a Sheriff Office Patrol Unit on Interstate10 EB MM 37.

EL PASO, TEXAS – On October 8th, 2024, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Special Victims Unit, with the assistance of the Major Crimes Unit, the Warrants and Fugitive Apprehension Unit, and Narcotics Unit, conducted an investigation on the whereabouts of Rogelio Garcia Jr. Garcia was wanted for Continuous Sexual Abuse of Young Child or Disabled Individual: Victim Under 14. El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Deputies made contact with Garcia at his residence located at the 13400 block of Emerald Pass Ave., in El Paso County, TX. Garcia was taken into custody without incident and was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility with $150,000.00 bond

EL PASO, TEXAS – El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit is currently investigating a stabbing that occurred in Red Sands on October 6, 2024, at approximately 03:00 am. The victim was at Red Sands, located at 15800 Montana Ave, when a male subject approached him and stabbed him in the chest. The victim was then taken to the Hospital of Providence North East campus, where he was stabilized and transferred to Providence Memorial Campus. NEWS RELEASE- MOTOR VEHICLE ACCIDENT (ATV) at LOS TULES AND HARTLEY

EL PASO, TEXAS – On October 5, 2024, approximately 10:30 pm., El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to a call involving an ATV vehicle rollover at the intersection of Los Tules and Hartley. A 35-year-old male was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.  The intersection is closed off for approximately the next three hours. The Sheriff’s Office would like to remind the public of the importance of safe driving practices, especially when operating off-road vehicles such as ATVs, it is generally illegal to operate an all-terrain vehicle (ATV) on public roads in Texas.

NEWS RELEASE- Motor Vehicle Accident / Driving While Intoxicated, I-10 EB, El Paso County.

EL PASO, TEXAS – On October 4, 2024, at approximately 1:52 AM., El Paso County Sheriff's Office Deputies assigned to the East Montana Patrol Station were investigating a Motor Vehicle Accident at I-10 EB MM 37. While deputies were blocking traffic with emergency overhead lights, a vehicle struck a patrol unit and a tow truck. Investigation revealed the driver, 27-year-old Roman Aranda, was intoxicated and subsequently placed under arrest for Driving While Intoxicated.

At approximately 3:15 AM., Deputies assigned to the Peter J. Herrera Patrol Station were assisting by directing traffic near I-10 EB MM 35, when an additional vehicle struck another patrol unit. Investigation revealed the driver, 32-year-old Daniel Vasqez, was also intoxicated and subsequently placed under arrest for Driving While Intoxicated. Both subjects were booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility. Because they are pending the booking process, no booking image is available at the moment.

NEWS RELEASE- CONSTRUCTION SITE THEFT (LUMBER)

EL PASO, TEXAS – El Paso County Sheriff's Office Peter J. Herrera Patrol Station Deputies responded to the 300 block of Roper, Clint, El Paso County, in reference to a suspicious vehicle at a home builder construction site. Deputies met with 34-year-old Daniel Garcia Monge, who was observed to have several pieces of lumber belonging to the builder on his trailer. Through further investigation, Garcia Monge was taken into custody and booked into the El Paso County Downtown Detention Facility for Theft Prop >=$100<$750 with a $750 bond.

NEWS RELEASE- The Crisis Intervention Team attends Career Day at SSG. Manuel R. Puentes Middle School

EL PASO, TEXAS – On September 27, 2024, the El Paso County Sheriff's Office Crisis Intervention Team-(CIT) participated in Career Day at SSG. Manel R. Puentes Middle School. CIT Deputies talked with students in the middle about CIT's vital role in responding to and de-escalating mental health-related calls within El Paso County. Deputies emphasized the importance of remaining in school and getting good grades and spoke from their experience regarding the rewarding careers available in law enforcement. CIT Deputies endeavor to ensure the El Paso County Sheriff's Office continues to be positively represented in the community we serve by continuing to attend these types of events.
