HIGH-RISK INMATE TRANSPORT COURSE 829

EL PASO, TEXAS – The El Paso County Sheriff's Office Region 8 Training Academy conducted the inaugural three-day High-Risk Inmate Transport course for Detention Officers on August 26-28, 2023. The development and organization of this program were spearheaded by Range Master Justin Martinez, with the valuable support of all academy instructors. The objective of this course is to enhance the preparedness of our personnel in transporting inmates outside the boundaries of our detention facilities. Attendees of this course were exposed to comprehensive scenario-based training encompassing firearms tactics, taser deployment, restraint application, defensive tactics, emergency radio procedures, and various other relevant skills. The objective of this course was to create a comprehensive and dynamic training program that exposes Armed Detention Officers to intense situations, enabling them to effectively respond, engage, or counter potential escape, attack, or ambush scenarios while in the process of inmate transportation. This training instills in Armed Detention Officers the confidence to depend on their tactical training and enhances their readiness to employ force options if the situation demands it. This course will be made available quarterly to enhance the preparedness of our armed Detention Officers in the event of an emergency.

NEWS RELEASE- Theft of property arrest- emps deputies

EL PASO, TEXAS – On August 22, 2024, at approximately 6:05 p.m., El Paso County Sheriff’s Office deputies from the Montana Patrol Station were working an off-duty security assignment at the Cielo Vista Mall. The deputies were notified by employees of a local jewelry store that a male subject, who had previously committed a theft of property at another local store was seen in their store. The male subject was observed stealing more than $9,000 worth of jewelry earlier that day. Deputies immediately initiated an active search for the described subject. Deputies were able to locate him and detain him after the subject attempted to leave the area. Further investigation revealed the subject was wearing the same clothing from the previous theft earlier in the day. The subject was also found to be in possession of stolen jewelry. The subject was identified as 40-year-old Adan Gutierrez. Deputies turned Gutierrez over to EPPD detectives.

Illegal Dumping- 11700 block of Michael Dr., El Paso County. Mitchell, Richard Eugene

EL PASO, TEXAS – On August 17, 2024, Deputies from the Peter John Herrera Patrol Station were dispatched to 1300 Horizon Blvd, in El Paso County reference illegal dumping. Deputies received information that the male subject was dumping several tires in the desert area approximately 500 feet southeast from the 11700 block of Michael Dr, El Paso County. Further investigation revealed 63-year-old Richard Eugene Mitchell illegally dumped tires into the desert area and damaged a third person’s property after he was confronted for the dumping. Assisting deputies were able to locate the location of occurrence and observed approximately 25 tires ranging from different models, brands, and sizes. Mitchell was booked into the Downtown Jail Facility for Illegal Dumping >5LBS<500LBS or >5GAL<100CFT, under a $1,000 bond, and Criminal Mischief >=$2,500<$30K, under a $4,000 bond. |

WANTED SUBJECT 300 block of Torreon, Clint, El Paso County

EL PASO, TEXAS – On 08-20-2024, Peter John Herrera Patrol Station Deputies responded to the 300 block Torreon St., Clint, Texas in reference to information on a Wanted Subject. Upon arrival, Deputies discovered wanted subject 52-Year-Old Jorge Sosa, a registered sex offender, had fled on foot. A search of the open fields and canal areas began for apprehension of Sosa. Deputies were able to track Sosa hiding on a tree and was taken into custody without incident. Sosa was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility for Parole Violation/Sex Offender Fail to Register with no bond.

Readyone 2nd Annual Health and Safety Fair

EL PASO, TEXAS – The El Paso County Sheriff's Office Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) was honored to be included in the 2nd Annual Health and Safety Fair hosted by ReadyOne Industries. ReadyOne Industries is a company that believes in providing equal opportunities for individuals with disabilities, employing most individuals who are either blind or have other disabilities. As CIT Deputies, the team interacted with over 400 participants at the fair, sharing important information about the services they offer to the community. This event was a chance to connect with the public and raise awareness about the importance of mental health support and crisis intervention. The CIT Deputies were grateful for the chance to participate in such a meaningful event and look forward to continuing to educate and support the community.
At the event, attendees were provided with comprehensive materials and community resource packets that included essential information such as contact details for crisis services, affordable medical options, and local support groups. These packets were carefully curated to address the various needs of El Paso County residents, ensuring that individuals can access the necessary resources when faced with difficult situations.
The El Paso County Sheriff's Office's commitment to actively participating in events like these demonstrates its dedication to serving the community and playing a positive role in providing vital information to residents. Village of Vinton Food Pantry

EL PASO, TEXAS – On 08/16/2024, El Paso County Deputies from the Northwest Patrol Station assisted the Village of Vinton with their food pantry. Deputies passed out “Lock or Lose it” and “Illegal dumping” flyers and shared important information on topics like crime prevention. They engaged with the citizens and answered questions. These types of events promote long-term safety and awareness among our citizens. Deputies also collected a number of surveys in which the residents provided information about the services they receive from the EPCSO.

Fugitive Apprehension Unit Arrest - JIMMY MACK RODRIGUEZ

EL PASO, TEXAS – On August 13, 2024, El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Fugitive Apprehension Unit in conjunction with Peter Herrera Station Deputies, investigated the whereabouts of 25-year-old Jimmy Mack Rodriguez. Rodriguez was wanted for Assault Family/Household W/Previous Convictions, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Burglary of Habitation, Aggravated Assault W/Deadly Weapon, Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child, Sexual Assault of a Child II CT, Injury to a Child/Elderly, and Evading Arrest W/Vehicle. Deputies located Rodriguez at the 700 block of N. Fabens in El Paso County, TX, and took him into custody without incident. Rodriguez was subsequently booked into the El Paso County Jail with no bond.

WANTED SUBJECT – JOSE RODRIGUEZ

EL PASO, TEXAS – On 08/10/2024, El Paso County Sheriff's Office Deputies from the Peter J. Herrera Patrol Station located a wanted subject at the 600 block of NE G, Fabens, El Paso County, TX. Through further investigation, 38-year-old Jose Rodriguez was located inside the apartment complex and was taken into custody for Parole Violation and Possession of a Controlled Substance. Rodriguez was subsequently booked into the El Paso County Jail for Parole Violation and Poss. CS PG 1/1-B <1G and is being held without bond.
