NEWS RELEASE- PROMOTION TO COMMANDER – CINDY PEREZ

EL PASO, TEXAS – On December 8, 2024, Cindy Perez was promoted to Commander of the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office. Cindy has served the Sheriff’s Office for over 22 years. Commander Cindy Perez was joined by her family and loved ones at the promotion ceremony, including her husband Andrew Perez, daughter Jaqueline Ortiz, son-in-law Edgar Parra, brother Dr. Abraham Lopez, and her parents, Laly Duran and Joe Lopez.

Throughout her career, Commander Perez has shown exceptional commitment and leadership within the department, joining the ranks of law enforcement in October 2001. She achieved the rank of Corporal in May 2015, demonstrating her ability to lead and mentor fellow officers. In December 2019, her hard work and determination were recognized again when she was promoted to Sergeant. Commander Perez took a moment to express her gratitude to Chief Kevin Lanahan and Assistant Chief Scott Romero for their outstanding leadership and unwavering support. Her husband, Andrew Perez, who pinned her badge during the ceremony, has also been a pillar of support, helping her balance her demanding role with their personal lives.

She has supervised both sworn detention officers and civilian staff, earning a reputation for her leadership and commitment to achieving departmental goals. Her contributions were honored last year when she received a Unit Citation Award from Sheriff Wiles. Outside of work, she is a devoted mother to three accomplished daughters: one studying veterinary medicine, another completing her nursing degree, and the youngest specializing in children's therapy.

NEWS RELEASE- JACKET DONATIONS – REGION VIII TRAINING ACADEMY

EL PASO, TEXAS – The Community Service section would like to extend heartfelt recognition and gratitude to the dedicated staff of the Region VIII Training Academy. In a generous act of compassion, they purchased and donated warm jackets for several children at Red Sands Elementary School. Because of their thoughtful contribution, these young students can stay warm and cozy throughout the chilly holiday season. Your kindness exemplifies the spirit of giving and shows how the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office truly serves its community with pride and integrity. NEWS RELEASE- BURGLARY OF HABITATION ON SOCORRO RD.

EL PASO, TEXAS – On 11/30/2024 at approximately 2050 hours, Peter J Herrera Patrol Station Deputies responded to the 12100 block of Socorro Rd. in El Paso County Texas in reference to Burglary of Habitation in progress. Reporter advised a subject armed with a knife forced himself into the apartment and began breaking items. Deputies arrived on scene and took 40-year-old Richard Ayala of San Elizario, Texas into custody. Ayala was subsequently charged with Burglary of Habitation, Criminal Mischief over $2,500 under $30,000.00, and Resisting Arrest. Subject was subsequently booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility under a $155,000 bond.

NEWS RELEASE- EAST MONTANA PATROL STATION DEPUTY SANTA CLAUS 2024

EL PASO, TEXAS On December 9, 2024, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Montana Patrol Station, in collaboration with the Peter John Herrera Patrol Station and the Special Traffic Investigations Unit, hosted a Deputy Santa Claus Christmas toy giveaway. The event took place at the Pete Duarte Head Start Center located at 500 South Darrington.

During the event, over 300 children received Christmas gifts, which were personally delivered by Deputy Santa Claus. The initiative aimed to help families celebrate the upcoming holidays and address some of the challenges faced by our community members during this festive season.

This wonderful initiative was made possible through the generosity, donations, and volunteer efforts of various community leaders and representatives, including the Montana Patrol Station, Peter J. Herrera Patrol Station, Deputy Rudy Aguilar, the Special Traffic Investigations Unit, Peace Officer Cadets (BPO24-02), Detention Officer Cadets (BDO24-04), and DEPCOM Power.

NEWS RELEASE- FENTANYL OFF THE STREETS OF VINTON

EL PASO, TEXAS – On 12.05.2024 Deputies of the Northwest Patrol Station conducted a traffic stop at the 600 block of Westway. Before the vehicle came to a stop, Deputies observed the passenger of the vehicle throw items out of the window. Deputies detained two subjects who were identified as Joseph Lunares and Edgar Martinez.

During the investigation, a large number of pills which tested positive for Fentanyl were located and seized by Deputies. The items thrown out of the window were recovered and tested positive for Fentanyl. Both Joseph Lunares and Edgar Martinez were placed under arrest and charged with Tamper with Physical Evidence and Possession of Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1.

EL PASO, TEXAS On Tuesday, November 26, 2024, the Northwest Patrol Station hosted a special Turkey Giveaway event for local families. The event was made possible by the generous donation from the El Paso County Sheriff's Association, whose commitment to giving back to the community helped ensure that families could enjoy a festive holiday meal. The Turkey Giveaway is part of the Sheriff's Office ongoing efforts to support the El Paso County community, ensuring that all families have access to resources and assistance during the holiday season.

 12022024 DEL VALLE, JUAN FRANCISCO Del Valle, Juan Francisco

UPDATE – EL PASO TEXAS - Upon the arrival of the unit, Rick Ballard, a 29-year-old male subject, was found dead on the scene; Dalia Olivas, a 28-year-old female, was transported to a local hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries. The offender will be arrested for two counts of intoxication and manslaughter upon release from the hospital.

EL PASO, TEXAS On November 2,2024, at 2337 Hours, East Montana Patrol Deputies were dispatched to the intersection of Rojas and Eastlake regarding an accident involving two vehicles. Upon arrival, the Deputies, along with first responders, found 3 subjects with serious injuries. The investigation is ongoing, and the area has been secured. Special Traffic Investigators were requested. The intersection will be closed until further notice. At this time, we have an estimated closure time of at least 6 hours. There is no additional information available at this time.
