The Crisis Intervention Team meets with foreign dignitaries to discuss mental health challenges in the El Paso region

EL PASO, TEXAS – On July 18, 2024, Araceli Mccoy, Executive Director for the El Paso Council for International Visitors, reached out to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) to discuss mental health challenges faced by law enforcement officers in the El Paso region. CIT deputies met with Ms. McCoy and foreign dignitaries from various countries such as Germany, China, and India to discuss CIT’s methods, procedures, and the extensive training CIT deputies receive to handle mental health-related calls properly. The information provided by CIT deputies provided an inside look at how law enforcement and EHN Mental Health Clinicians collaborate to de-escalate mental health-related calls. The methods and procedures utilized by the El Paso County Sheriff’s CIT will serve as a blueprint for foreign countries to utilize in their methods of collaborating law enforcement and mental health services in their countries.
