EL PASO, TEXAS – Lorenzo G. Alarcon Elementary School hosted its 3rd Annual Kites in the Sky on March 22 in honor of Deputy Peter J. Herrera. School administrators extended their invitation to our agency so that we could accompany the students on a fun field day to celebrate his life. Deputies from the Peter J. Herrera and Montana patrol stations attended and took advantage of a warm day to have a fun field day with the students and share Deputy Peter J. Herrera's story. Those in attendance included Deputy Herrera's family and County Commissioner Iliana Holguin, who spoke at the event. Students were also given the opportunity to speak and share their gratitude for Deputy Peter J. Herrera for serving their community and honoring his life. One of the students shared a heartfelt moment with Deputy Herrera's family, stating, "Some heroes wear capes, others wear a Superman shirt." Deputy Herrera's family made the event possible by donating the kites that were gifted to the students for use during the event. We thank Deputy Herrera's family and Lorenzo G. Alarcon Elementary School for continuing the legacy and sharing Deputy Peter J. Herrera's #4928 story.
