OFFICER INVOLVED SHOOTING IN ANTHONY TEXAS

El Paso, Texas – Today January 3rd, 2023, at about 2:30 pm., Officers with the Las Cruces Police Department received notification of a stolen vehicle on Interstate 10 headed toward Texas. The vehicle was located, and officers followed from New Mexico. As officers approached the state line, assistance was requested from Texas law enforcement agencies.

As officers from Anthony Police arrived, the driver of the stolen vehicle drove towards officers striking police vehicles. Subsequently, shots were fired by officers. The male driver was transported to a local hospital, where he later died. The passenger of the vehicle is in custody for outstanding criminal warrants with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s office was not involved in the incident. However, the Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation with the assistance of the Texas Rangers.
