Narcotics Operation at the 1200 block of Horizon Blvd.

El Paso, Texas – On December 8, 2022 at 1:10 pm., The El Paso County Sheriff's Office was conducting a Narcotics Operation at the Petro Truck Stop at 1295 Horizon Blvd. During the operation, the driver attempted to flee in his vehicle and, doing so, struck a Sheriff's Office detective and a Sheriff's Office vehicle. The offender drove off, fleeing through the Petro parking lot but eventually abandoned the vehicle allowing the occupants to flee on foot.
After a brief foot pursuit, the driver was taken into custody and placed under arrest. The Sheriff's Office can confirm that an officer-involved shooting occurred during the incident and that a detective was injured after being struck by a vehicle. The detective was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries and has since been released.
The driver has been identified as 22-year-old David Angel Roque and was placed under arrest for Criminal Attempted Capital Murder ($ 500,000.00 bond) and two outstanding criminal warrants for Manufacture Delivery of Controlled Substance (Penalty Group 1 / 4g to 200g) and Manufacture Delivery of Controlled Substance (Penalty Group 1 / 1g to 4g).
The detective's name will not be released at this time. The investigation is still ongoing, and no other details will be released at this time.
