AMERICAS HIGH SCHOOL 2023 HOMECOMING PARADE

El Paso, Texas – The El Paso Sheriff's Office Community Services Section participated in the 2023 Americas High School Homecoming Parade on Wednesday, August 30, 2023. This year's parade theme was "Life in the Playhouse." The parade began at the intersection of Pellicano and Ted Houghton; the procession went through the residential neighborhoods and concluded at Americas High School, 12101 Pellicano Dr.
The educational institution organized a carnival within the school in the courtyard; 600 people were in attendance. The carnival showcased food trucks, game booths, a live DJ, and the "blazing of the letter "A." It was a privilege to partake in the event alongside the esteemed presence of the Sheriff's Office 2015 Ford Explorer commemorating our fallen Deputy Peter John Herrera, the Crisis Intervention Team's 2022 Ford Escape, and the Traffic Division's newly purchased 2023 Ford F-150. Commander Urrutia emphasized the importance of events like the Americas High School Homecoming parade, stating, "It is crucial for law enforcement agencies to actively engage with the community to foster trust, understanding, and an environment of support. We are grateful for the opportunity to participate in this parade to strengthen our bonds with the students, families, and community members."
Lorraine Varela, the Student Activities Director at Americas High School, oversaw the well-coordinated event. Additionally, we would like to extend special recognition to Ms. Myrna Lozano, a Level 2 Security students from the Federal Law Enforcement Private Security class, for walking alongside the Sheriff's Office vehicles. Furthermore, the El Paso County Sheriff's Office sincerely thanks Marlene Garcia, a freshman at Americas High School, a member of the Color Guard for the NJROTC, and a dedicated EPCSO Explorer, for her invitation and coordination with the school principal. Marlene's initiative and efforts have been instrumental in ensuring the EPCSO's participation in this significant community event. The school holds to its motto, "Better Together."
