UPDATE: VEHICLE ACCIDENT WITH FATALITY on I-10 Mile Marker 39

El Paso, Texas – On December 9, 2021, At approximately 03:30 AM, El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Special Traffic Investigators were requested to mile marker 39 on Interstate Highway 10 in reference to a motor vehicle crash involving a fatality. Investigation revealed that a vehicle was traveling eastbound on the westbound lanes of travel (wrong way). A vehicle that was traveling westbound (correct) on the inside lane was struck (head-on) by the wrong-way driver. The driver of the vehicle traveling the wrong way was pronounced dead on the scene as she was later identified as Stephanie Montoya.  The driver of the other vehicle was transported to local area hospital for medical evaluation. This is the 20th reported traffic fatality in the county compared to 15 fatalities in 2020.
