Introduction

In our efforts to continue to be safe, engaged, and inclusive where EVERYONE can contribute and thrive through civic, economic, and cultural integration; the implementation of iSpeak915 would ensure that ALL residents, including those that have disabilities or with Limited English Proficiency, have meaningful access to information, programs, and services.

The El Paso County is committed to ensuring that no person is denied the benefits of, excluded from, or subjected to discrimination on the basis of race, ethnicity, country of origin, language, or disability by facilitating effective interactions and providing accessible communication with local government.

The purpose for language access is to ensure that our county departments that offer direct services can communicate effectively with persons with disabilities and those with limited English proficiency (LEP) individuals.

Resolution

On March 28th 2022, El Paso County Judge and Commissioners Court, approved and adopted a resolution and policies for the implementation of iSpeak915- El Paso’s Language Access Solution.

Demographics

According to US Census,
24% of El Paso Population is Limited English Proficient. That’s approximately 260,000 individuals
5% of El Paso Population is of Hearing Difficulty (Approximately 35,000)
Language Needs in El Paso includes Spanish, ASL, Korean, German, Chinese, Arabic, and Tagalog
