About the El Paso County Attorney’s Office

The mission of the El Paso County Attorney's office is to represent the County of El Paso and the State of Texas by providing high quality, cost-effective legal services in an ethical, professional and competent manner. We shall seek justice, secure the protection and safety of all people, and enhance the quality of life in our community. In doing so, we shall treat all people with dignity, respect, honesty and fairness.

The El Paso County Attorney represents the County, its officials, and employees in various legal matters and prosecutes a variety of cases affecting families and children such as juvenile crime, child and elder abuse, mental health, and family violence. The office also enforces state and county environmental and health laws, such as illegal dumping, clean air, and water violations. The office practice includes civil and criminal litigation, collections, and general counsel work.

Our program:

The Office of the El Paso County Attorney has one paid Internship program offered in the summer semester. The office has a second, unpaid program that can work as an internship or fellowship that takes place in the fall, spring, and summer semesters. 

 Job duties:

               The intern/extern will be responsible for supporting the Affirmative Litigation Unit’s legal and advocacy work.

               Conduct legal and policy research.

               Draft memoranda, affidavits, and briefs.

               Research prospects for new litigation, including both factual and legal claims.

               Research and draft materials for public education.

               Engage in special projects and other duties as assigned.

To be considered for an internship at the El Paso County Attorney’s Office, an internship application must be submitted by the deadline indicated above. Only current law school students will be eligible to apply for the legal internship program.

            Submit a cover letter discussing your interest in working with the office, identifying any areas of particular interest. Please indicate the session (spring, fall, or summer) for which you are applying and whether you are applying for an internship or externship. Please indicate whether you would be requesting to work remotely (in-person is preferred). Please include whether your school would provide funds to support you during your internship or externship.
