Gladys Carmona
Supervisor/ Crime Victims Liaison

Ms. Carmona is a dedicated Crime Victims’ Liaison for the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Crime Victims Unit, where she has served as a supervisor for the past 16 years in this vital role. She provides essential crisis intervention to victims of violent crimes, reaching out to individuals and families in the often-neglected rural communities of El Paso County. Her commitment to helping those in distress is evident as she navigates the complexities of their situations, offering support, hope, and guidance during their vulnerable moments.
Prior to working with the Sheriff’s Office, Ms. Carmona gained invaluable experience as a Probation Officer with the West Texas Community Supervision Department. In this role, she handled cases of domestic violence and child abuse, working closely with offenders. Her hands-on experience in these challenging situations has deeply influenced her understanding of the vital support needed for victims to heal and rebuild their lives.
Ms. Carmona is a proud alumna of New Mexico State University, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, with a Supplemental Major in Constitutional Law. This educational background provides her with knowledge of the legal system and crime victims' rights, enabling her to effectively advocate for their needs and ensure they receive the support they deserve.
JoAnna Arriola, LCSW, M.Ed., BCH
Crisis Counselor

Ms. Arriola is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of Texas, currently practicing as a crisis counselor for the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office – Crime Victims Unit. Ms. Arriola completed her master’s degrees in social work and in Education at the University of Texas at El Paso. Ms. Arriola also holds a bachelor’s degree in Community Health, obtained through New Mexico State University. She has over a decade of experience in working in the fields of mental health and public health across a variety of settings that span from servicing various populations. Ms. Arriola has a broad range of clinical experience working with individuals, families, and groups across the life span in the following areas: Trauma, Grief, Suicide/Self-Harm, Depression, Anxiety, Chronic Illness, Dual Diagnosis, and Crisis Intervention.
Mariana Vega
Crime Victim Specialist

Ms. Vega has dedicated the past 13 years to her role as a bilingual Crime Victim Specialist within the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Crime Victims Unit, where she provides compassionate emotional support to victims of crime during their most vulnerable moments, with a wealth of knowledge about state and local domestic violence laws and crime victims' rights. She can navigate complex situations with ease and understanding. A proud graduate of The University of Texas at El Paso, Ms. Vega holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology and criminal justice, equipped with the expertise and insight necessary to advocate effectively for those in need.
