Assistant Chief Joe A. Chairez Jr., a lifelong El Pasoan, has over 39 years of service with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, starting as a Detention Officer in 1985. Rising through the ranks to Assistant Chief, he has managed critical facilities, overseen training operations as Director of the Region VIII Training Academy, and led strategic initiatives such as implementing new technologies, inmate services, and contract negotiations. Assistant Chief Chairez holds an Associate Degree in Law Enforcement and is a graduate of the prestigious Bill Blackwood Leadership Command College. He has worked under four sheriffs, including newly elected Sheriff Oscar Ugarte, and remains dedicated to serving with pride.
