El Paso County To Conduct Public Hearing Regarding Extension Of Manuel F. Aguilera Highway
Project will connect the new
Tornillo-Guadalupe Port of Entry to I-10
On Tuesday July 29, 2014, the County
of El Paso, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), and the Camino Real
Regional Mobility Authority will conduct a public hearing regarding the
construction of phase II of FM 3380 (Manuel F. Aguilera Highway).
The project consists of a new 3.8-mile, two-lane extension
to the Manuel F. Aguilera Highway, from SH 20 (Alameda Ave.) to I- 10. It
includes the construction of an overpass over Alameda Ave. and adjacent Union
Pacific Railroad rights-of-way. The project requires a total of 201.97 acres of
land, and it will be bid out in the next couple of weeks. The construction of
the road extension will be paid from a special vehicle registration fee of $10 adopted
last year by the El Paso County. The
County collects the $10 as part of the normal, annual car registration fee. The
highway is expected to be ready by Fall 2016.
The public hearing will take place at the Rogelio Sanchez
Road and Bridge Building located at 1331 N. Fabens Rd., Fabens, Texas, 79838. The
hearing will consist of an open house (scheduled at 6:00 p.m.) for questions
and review of project exhibit and a formal presentation to start at 7:00 p.m.,
followed by a public comment period.
The County of El Paso recently completed construction of a $16.3
million county-funded portion of Manuel F. Aguilera Highway (referred to as
Phase I), which extends from the new Tornillo-Guadalupe Port of Entry (POE) to
SH 20 (Alameda Ave.).
Maps, design drawings, environmental documents, construction
schedules, and other information related to the project are available for
