DPS FITNESS INSTITUTE GRADUATION CEREMONY

EL PASO, TEXAS – The El Paso County Sheriff's Office took part in the DPS Fitness Institute course. The Texas Department of Public Safety Fitness Wellness Unit is dedicated to promoting positive lifestyle changes, enhancing physical fitness, and mitigating the risk of heart disease and obesity through specialized training and educational programs. The development of the DPS Fitness Institute was initiated with the goal of expanding the unit's reach and enhancing subject matter expertise in the field on a daily basis. The DPS Fitness Institute is a comprehensive six-week program that incorporates both classroom instruction and a variety of physical exercises.

This academically challenging course is designed to equip individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary to pursue certification as personal trainers, physical fitness instructors, and testers for DPS and external agencies. The course covers a wide range of topics including Program Development, Basic Anatomy and Physiology, Exercise Leadership and Instruction skills, Strength, Cardiovascular, and Flexibility training principles, Physical Fitness Assessment Protocols, Nutrition Science, and Resiliency Training, providing students with a comprehensive foundation in the field. They conducted their graduation ceremony at the El Paso County Sheriff's Office Region 8 Training Academy on June 7, 2024.
