GED ATTAINMENT BY INCARCERATED INDIVIDUAL 6.4.2024

EL PASO, TEXAS – The El Paso County Sheriff's Office Jail Annex is thrilled to share the news of another remarkable personal achievement within our correctional system. An incarcerated individual has successfully completed the comprehensive General Educational Development (GED) program, a testament to their determination and the transformative power of education. This program, a cornerstone of our commitment to rehabilitation and reducing recidivism, empowers incarcerated individuals with valuable education and skills. The graduation ceremony, a celebration of this individual's journey, was held on June 4, 2024, at the El Paso County Sheriff's Office Jail Annex.

The GED program, which started in March 2023, offers incarcerated individuals at the El Paso County Sheriff's Office Jail Annex the opportunity to earn their high school equivalency diplomas. By providing access to quality education, the program equips participants with the necessary tools to pursue higher education, gain employment, and build a brighter future upon release.

The success of the GED program is a testament to the power of collaboration and shared vision. The El Paso County Sheriff's Office has partnered with the Ysleta Community Learning Center, utilizing an adult literacy grant through the Texas Workforce Commission to deliver the GED program. Experienced instructors, volunteers, and staff have come together to provide comprehensive instruction in essential subjects such as mathematics, science, social studies, and language arts. With a tailored curriculum and individualized support, participants are guided through their studies, ensuring they can complete the program.

The El Paso County Sheriff's Office and the El Paso County Re-entry program worked together to implement the GED program, a crucial step towards building a more inclusive and rehabilitative correctional system.
