EL PASO TEXAS- On 08-05-12 at approximately 8:47 PM Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a motor vehicle accident (MVA) involving a Sheriff’s Patrol Unit and a passenger car at the intersection of Horizon Blvd. and Ashford St., El Paso County, TX. The southbound lanes of Horizon Blvd. were closed from Darrington Rd. and Horizon Blvd. with the northbound lane of Horizon Blvd. open for travel. Ashford St. also remained closed for several hours.
The driver and (2) occupants of the passenger car were transported by life ambulance to a local area hospital, (2) with non-life threatening injuries with the severity of the third occupant unknown at the time. The Deputy sustained minor injuries and was transported to the hospital for evaluation.
Special Traffic Investigators were summoned to the scene for determination and cause of the accident. A preliminary investigation by Deputies on scene indicated the passenger car was traveling northbound and the Sheriff’s Patrol Unit was traveling southbound on Horizon Blvd. when the driver of the passenger car attempted to turn left onto Ashford St. and failed to yield the right-of-way to the Deputy traveling south. Both vehicles sustained extensive damage. The investigation continues.
