EL PASO, TX-The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Section in coordination with the Texas Department of Transportation conducted a Spring Break DWI Enforcement Wave throughout El Paso County, TX, during the period of March 10 thru March 18, 2012.
During that time period, extra officers were utilized to focus on patrolling high risk areas. Our goal, was to reduce the number of fatal or serious injury collisions during times when alcohol-related crashes are most frequent.
Deputies worked various hours in search of DWI drivers while enforcing other traffic violations. In 2011, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office/Special Traffic Investigators have investigated a total of (12) fatalities in El Paso County in which five were alcohol related. This year, 2012, there have been (2) fatalities to date.
