EL PASO TX- Early Saturday morning on 08-6-11 at approximately 3:00 am Deputies were dispatched to Horizon Blvd and Gateway Blvd West (overpass) in reference to an MVA, a head on collision involving two passenger vehicles. Dispatch also advised one vehicle caught fire.

Deputies arrived and saw a white passenger car (2007, Subaru Impreza) engulfed in flames. Deputies also saw a black passenger car (2000, Chevy Impala) with multiple subjects inside. There were six occupants inside the vehicle. Sheriff Deputies, with the assistance of Horizon PD, were able to extract five occupants from the vehicle to safety. All five occupants were transported to Del Sol Medical Center by Life Ambulance, two with life threatening injuries. Socorro and Horizon volunteer fire fighters were on scene and contained the fire within minutes.


Special Traffic Investigators and Crime Scene technicians were summoned to the scene. According to witnesses, and investigation by the STI’s, the Chevy Impala was traveling northbound on Horizon Blvd and was in the left turn lane only turning left onto Gateway West when a white Subaru Impreza traveling southbound on Horizon Blvd, on the middle lane, disregarded a red light and collided with the Chevy Impala. There were three occupants in the Subaru and all were able to exit the vehicle to safety. The driver of the Subaru was charged with Intoxication Assault.

The investigation continues.
