EL PASO TEXAS- Sheriff’s Deputies patrolling the Upper and Lower Valley Streets of El Paso County arrested and booked twelve subjects into the El Paso County Detention Facility this past weekend for alcohol related offenses, from Driving While Intoxicated to the offense of Intoxication Assault and Accident Involving Injury, within in El Paso County. The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office reminds citizens to drive safe and be responsible. Do not drink and drive. Let’s continue to keep our roads safe.

MAN STABBED DURING FAMILY PARTY IN UPPER-VALLEY

EL PASO TEXAS- On 04-21-13 at approximately 5:40 PM Sheriff’s Deputies responded to an aggravated assault call in the upper-valley at the 1300 block of Bayshore Rd., (Westway Area) in El Paso County Texas. Upon arrival Deputies met with a 20 year old male victim who was allegedly stabbed on the neck by male subject who confronted the victim while at a family gathering. The victim was transported by ambulance to a local area hospital in stable condition.

A preliminary investigation revealed the male subject, accompanied by another male, arrived to the gathering at the said location highly intoxicated when he became aggressive with other invitees to include the victim. According to witnesses, the male subject at one point produced a unknown type of weapon and was seen chasing the victim on the property, wounding the victim. The male offender then left in a tan four door passenger car. The investigation continues.

EL PASO TEXAS-On 04-16-13 at approximately 3:50 PM, Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to 801 Talbot Ave. (Alderete Middle School), Canutillo, TX, in reference to a bomb threat. Deputies arrived to assist school staff who had begun evacuating students from the building. Upon evacuation of the building, an assessment of the interior was performed by Deputies for any suspicious activity or objects which yielded negative results.

On 04-17-13, witness information lead Deputies to a juvenile male, 14 years of age, who allegedly made the false threat. The juvenile was taken into custody and referred to the Juvenile Probation Department for the offense False Alarm or Report. No injuries were reported as a result of the bomb threat.

The cause of a FALSE ALARM OR REPORT, in the State of Texas, is a State Jail Felony when a person knowingly initiates, communicates or circulates a report of a present, past, or future bombing, fire, offense, or other emergency that he knows is false or baseless and in an emergency involves a public primary or secondary school or other public service that causes an action by;

An official or volunteer agency that deals with emergencies
Places a person in fear of imminent serious bodily injury; or
Prevents or interrupts the occupation of a building, room, place of assembly, place to which the public has access, or aircraft, automobile, or other mode of conveyance.

An individual adjudged guilty of a state jail felony shall be punished by confinement in a state jail for any term of not more than two years or less than 180 days. In addition to confinement, an individual adjudged guilty of a state jail felony may be punished by a fine not to exceed $10,000.

EL PASO TEXAS- On 04-14-13 at approximately 7:45 AM, Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the 600 Valley Chile Rd. (Great American Land & Cattle Co.), Vinton, TX, in reference to an alarm call.

Sheriff’s Deputies and Anthony Police Department arrived within minutes to find the front door to the business kicked in. A perimeter was established and a search of the business using a Sheriff’s Office K-9 yielded negative results. Further investigation revealed the suspect ransacked the office side of the business, opened a cash register and made way with approximately $500. A surveillance video depicts the suspect as a thin male, wearing a gray hooded sweater with the word “PINK” (front lettering) and red shorts. The vehicle is described as a gray or silver Nissan Pathfinder with a missing mounted spare, possibly driven by an accomplice.

EL PASO TEXAS- On 04-10-13 at approximately 1:20 AM, a Sheriff’s Deputy patrolling the upper valley conducted a traffic stop on a white 2001 Ford Expedition at the 6900 block South Desert, in El Paso County, after the Deputy spotted a vehicle creating a traffic hazard. Upon contact with driver, the Deputy placed the driver/Francisco Salcido of the 100 block of Antone, in Sunland Park, NM, for driving under the suspicion of alcohol.

EL PASO TEXAS- On 03-29-13 at approximately 2:20 PM Sheriff’s Deputies arrested a male subject identified as Victor Fernando Reyes of the 1500 block of Fresno in El Paso, for the offense of Driving While Intoxicated 3rd or more. Reyes was reportedly seen traveling northbound on the southbound lanes of traffic in the area of Doniphan Dr. and Talbot Ave., El Paso County Texas.

The vehicle, a tan 2001 Ford F-350, was later spotted by a Sheriff’s Deputy parked at the 7600 block of Doniphan Dr. when the Reyes attempted to drive away. The driver failed field sobriety tests and a subsequent breathalyzer test showed Reyes was three times over the legal limit. Reyes was placed under arrest for DWI 3rd or more and booked into the Detention Facility.

EL PASO TEXAS- On 03-27-13 the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Upper Valley patrol section in collaboration with the Anthony Police Department and the Precinct #7 Constables Office, initiated a stationary vehicle check at the 8500 block of Doniphan Dr. in Anthony Texas. A total of 74 citations were issued within the (2) hour span of the operation to include (1) arrest made for (8) outstanding traffic warrants.

The purpose of stationary vehicle checks are to ensure that citizens operating motor vehicles upon public roadways, are complying with applicable safety related Traffic Laws, license requirements, and financial responsibility requirements.

A first conviction for driving without automobile insurance in the State of Texas will result in a fine between $175 and $350 (plus court costs & additional fees). Additional convictions could result in fines between $350 to $1000 (plus court costs & additional fees), suspension of your driver’s license and can result in an impound of your vehicle(Texas Department of Insurance).

IN TEXAS, 1 OUT OF 5 VEHICLES ARE UNINSURED

When drivers are pulled over, Police can obtain accurate and timely information on a given vehicle to check if the car driven has insurance. The TexasSure “Financial Responsibility Verification Program” created and passed by the 79th Legislature Regular Session, Senate Bill 1670, was established to do just that; allow law enforcement and county tax officials to determine whether drivers have automobile insurance (Texas Department of Insurance).

EL PASO TEXAS- On 03-23-13 at approximately 4:20 AM, Sheriff’s Deputies responded to an assault in progress at the 7600 block of DeAlva (Westway area).

Upon arrival Deputies took 45 year old OFFENDER/Javier Rivera into custody after RIVERA complied with Deputies and walked out of his residence. At that time, the victim (girlfriend) ran out and claimed she was allegedly beaten by the offender. Further investigation revealed the couple (dating) were in a vehicle at the time when an argument ensued and the offender pulled into a business parking lot and began to assault the victim. The victim was then driven to the offender’s residence where the victim attempted to escape from the offender to no avail until she was able to call 911 for help. The victim was transported to a local area hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Rivera was charged with Unlawful Restraint, Assault Causes Bodily Injury, Interfering with Emergency Telephone Call.

EL PASO TEXAS- On Saturday, 03-16-13 at 4:20 PM, a Sheriff’s Deputy was dispatched to the area of Talbot and S. Desert Blvd. in reference to a possible drunk driver. Minutes later, EPCSO Communications/dispatchers reported the vehicle, a blue 1999 Chevy Cavalier, had crashed into a unoccupied parked car at the 800 block of Vermillion. Upon arrival, the Deputy found the driver, 36 year old Octavio Guerrero asleep behind the wheel with his foot on the brake and the vehicle’s engine running. The driver, Octavio Guerrero of the 600 block of Windriver Ave. in El Paso Texas, was placed under arrest for the offense of DWI 3^rd or more. Intoxilyzer results revealed GUERRERO was over three times the legal limit. GUERRERO was also booked for two outstanding DWI-related warrants. GUERRERO was not injured as a result of the crash.
