RESULTS OF INCREASED ENFORCEMENT PATROLS -SPRING BREAK

El Paso, TX – During the recent “Spring Break” period, March 1 -18th, 2018, additional El Paso County Sheriff’s Office deputies were assigned to various areas throughout El Paso County to locate and arrest DWI drivers. In addition to those operations, additional deputies were also assigned throughout El Paso County to identify drivers operating their vehicles in an unsafe manner. Deputies targeted speeding, intersection and seatbelt/child safety seat violations and issued citations accordingly.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office utilized funding provided by the Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT) under the 2018 TXDOT STEP Comprehensive Grant and the 2018 TXDOT Impaired Driving Mobilization Grant. The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office made a total of (17) Driving While Intoxicated related arrests during this period. Under the Comprehensive and Impaired Driving Mobilization Grant, the following arrests were made and citations were issued:

-5 arrests for Driving While Intoxicated

-2 arrests for Driving While Intoxicated Breath Alcohol Content over 0.15

-1 arrest for Driving While Intoxicated with Child under 15 years of age

-3 arrests for Possession of Controlled Substances or Dangerous Drugs

-11 Total arrests under TXDOT grants

-81 citations for Speeding violations

-58 citations issued for Seatbelt/Child safety seat violations

-25 citations for Intersection-related violations

-46 citations for additional violations

-210 Total citations

Also during this enforcement period on March 13, 2018, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, in conjunction with Union Pacific Railroad Police and the Socorro Police Department, participated in Operation UP Cares. Operation UP Cares targets drivers operating their vehicle in an unsafe manner in and around railroad crossings.
