EPCSO MURDER CASE UPDATE

El Paso, TX – On December 7, 2015, El Paso County Sheriffs Officers responded to an unresponsive person lying on the side of the roadway at the 2100 block of Carlsbad Rd. Fabens, Texas. Upon arrival Sheriff’s Officers determined that the person was deceased and suspected foul play. The Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit and Crime Scene Unit responded. The deceased was identified as Miguel Rojas Rivera a 27-year-old male resident of San Elizario, Texas.

Through the course of the investigation, it was determined that 27-year-old Hector Reyes also a resident of San Elizario, Texas, was responsible for the death of Miguel Rivera. On December 8, 2015, an arrest warrant was issued for Hector Reyes charging him with Murder. Reyes was taken into custody and booked into the El Paso County Detention facility.

A trial date was set for September 29, 2017, in El Paso, Texas. The day before the trial was to begin Reyes plead guilty to the charge of Murder and was sentenced to 35 years in prison.
