El Paso, TX – The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Explorer Post 2005 and Community Service Section will be conducting a training session on Saturday, February 4th, 2017.

The goal of the Explorer Post is to afford an opportunity to adolescents and young adults of the community to observe, participate and learn about law enforcement. The explorer post and its advisors provide education, training, and afford them the opportunity to begin serving the community. We will provide the explorers with sound information on which to base their decision on pursuing a career in law enforcement.

This Saturday, February 4th, 2017, the Explorer Post and Community Service Section will focus on radio communication and traffic stop.

               Upon completion of the training, explorers will have learned the basic principles and techniques to conduct a traffic stop and how to effectively communicate over the radio with dispatchers.

EPCSO HOSTS APPRECIATION LUNCHEON

Sheriff Richard D. Wiles and the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office hosted an appreciation luncheon for Sheriff’s Office volunteers and jail ministry members on Saturday, January 28th, 2017.

            Sheriff’s Office volunteers were recognized for their valuable assistance to the Sheriff's Office and to all the citizens of El Paso County. Volunteers are assigned to various sections throughout the Sheriff’s Office and they provide countless hours of support taking reports, phone calls, providing customer service and other daily tasks that make them vital to the daily operation of the Sheriff’s Office.

            Jail ministry members were recognized for their ongoing assistance to the Sheriff’s Office and the inmates housed in the El Paso County Detention Facility. Ministry members visit inmates offering religious counsel and support.

            Sheriff Wiles also recognized the Sheriff’s Office Chaplaincy Section for providing a much-needed service and comfort to the employees of the Sheriff’s Office and the citizens of El Paso County.

El Paso, TX - El Paso, TX – The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Region VIII Academy will be hosting the Texas Public Service Association (TPSA) Western Regional Public Safety Competition, on Saturday, January 21st, 2017.

The event showcases high school students participating in a variety of public safety events related to law enforcement, firefighting, and corrections. This event allows high school students to apply hands-on skills and tactics learned in the classroom relating to public safety careers. Additionally, students compete in a variety of academic events demonstrating their knowledge of learned topics, concepts, and theories of public safety.

“The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office recognizes the dedication these young men and women have shown for learning and implementing the various public safety skills taught by the Texas Public Service Association. We welcome these students to the Region VIII Academy so that they can showcase their talents during the upcoming TPSA Western Regional Public Safety Competition.” – Sheriff Richard Wiles.

El Paso County Sheriff’s Office deputies along with members of various local law enforcement agencies will be judging and scoring the competition.

The TPSA Western Regional Public Safety Competition will take place at the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Region VIII Academy, 12501 Montana Ave. Saturday, January 21st, 2017, beginning at 8:00 a.m.

El Paso, TX – The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office deputies detained four juveniles following a burglary of building call on Monday, January 16th, 2017.

Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the 14000 block of Loving Ln. to the X MotoBall Paintball just after 10:00 a.m. Deputies were provided with video surveillance footage where they observed four subjects enter the business and take various paintball guns and paintball accessories.

A subsequent search of the area resulted in the location and apprehension of four juveniles in possession of the stolen property.

The stolen property was recovered and return to the business, the juveniles were released to their parents, the investigation continues, no other information is available at this time.

During the recent Christmas/New Years Holiday period (December 23, 2016, to January 1, 2017) the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office made a total of (20) driving while intoxicated related arrests.

The Sheriff’s Office utilized funding provided by the Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT) as part of their enhanced patrols targeting drunk drivers. Of the (20) arrests made by the Sheriff’s Office, (11) arrests were made under the 2017 TXDOT STEP Comprehensive Grant.

In addition to the intoxicated related offenses, one of the drivers was arrested and charged with Possession of a Control Substance (cocaine) over 4-under 200 grams. A second driver was also arrested and charged with Possession of Marijuana under 2 ounces.

Arrests made by the Sheriff’s Office during the reporting period are as follows:

-9 arrests: Driving While Intoxicated

- 8 arrests: Driving While Intoxicated Breath Alcohol Content .15 or higher

- 1 arrest: Driving While Intoxicated 2nd Offense

- 1 arrest: Driving While Intoxicated 3rd Offense or More

- 1 arrest: Driving Under Influence/Minor

20 Total Arrests
