El Paso, TX – The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office wants to make the citizens of El Paso County aware of fraudulent checks from the Sheriff’s Office Inmate Trust Account.

The Sheriff’s Office Bond and Inmate Trust Section issues a yearly notice regarding this topic to keep the citizens of El Paso County from becoming victims of a fraudulent check incident.

The public and check cashing businesses/merchants should be aware of fraudulent checks from the Sheriff’s Office Inmate Trust Account.  Over the years there have been instances where fake checks are reproduced using the Sheriff’s Office commissary bank account number.

The Sheriff’s Office has accounting controls in place to ensure that those fraudulent checks do not clear the Sheriff’s Office commissary bank account. Unfortunately, for those individuals or merchants who do cash these fraudulent checks, they do end up with the loss.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office would like to encourage those who receive a check from the Sheriff’s Office Inmate Trust Account and are unsure of its authenticity to contact the Sheriff’s Office Bond and Inmate Trust Section at (915)546-2236 or (915)546-2249 and a cashier will verify the authenticity of the check.
