RELEASE: EPCSO RESPONDS TO FIRE IN TORNILLO TEXAS

Tornillo, TX- El Paso County Sheriff’s deputies responded to the 700 block of O.T. Smith Rd., in reference to a structure fire approximately at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday, August 23, 2016.

Upon arrival, deputies discovered a steel barn structure used to store cotton seed, fully engulfed in flames. It took fire crews approximately two hours to extinguish the fire, the following fire departments responded; Clint, Fabens, San Elizario, Tornillo.

No injuries were reported.

The estimated loss of cotton and property was valued at $600,000.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, no further information is available at this time.

At approximately, 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 16th, 2016 El Paso County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to the 1300 block of Horizon Blvd. in reference to an unresponsive person.

                Upon arrival, deputies observed an unresponsive person inside a vehicle and the victim was later determined to be deceased.

The Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit and Crime Scene Investigators were requested to the scene.

The incident is currently under investigation and pending the autopsy and notification of next of kin.

No further information is available at this time.

El Paso, Texas - El Paso County Sheriff’s Office will be continuing its School Resource Officer Program (SRO) this upcoming 2016-2017 school year.

            This will be the third year for the program, which was first introduced in April 2014 as part of a grant from the Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS). The basic duties of the Deputies assigned to schools; are to respond to all police calls in their respective school as well as assigned feeder schools. Deputies also give various presentations regarding teen issues, conduct counseling, mentoring of students and assist staff.

The SRO officers also take part in school activities such as; Law Enforcement clubs, food drives, Red Ribbon Week, career days presentations and an assortment of other tasks.  

            The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office currently has School Resource Officers assigned to the following schools in the Clint and San Elizario School Districts.

· East Montana Middle School

· East Montana High School

· Horizon Middle School

·  Horizon High School

·  Ricardo Estrada Middle School

·  Clint High School

·  Ann M. Garcia-Enriquez Middle School

· San Elizario High School

            The school year begins August 22, 2016, for the Clint and San Elizario school districts.

El Paso, TX­ –  Sheriff Richard D. Wiles and the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office hosted the 6th Annual National Night Out on Tuesday, August 2nd, 2016.

National Night Out was kicked off with the unveiling of the El Paso County Law Enforcement Memorial. The memorial will honor the County Law Enforcement Officers who have sacrificed their lives in the line of duty.

National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make our neighborhoods a safer, better place to live. Together, we are making that happen.

National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community and provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances.

In partnership with the community to keep our neighborhoods safe:

El Paso, TX­ – On Monday, August 1st, 2016 in a resolution by the County Judge and Commissioners of the County of El Paso, Texas hereby recognize that the first Tuesday in August 2016 is recognized as; El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, Community National Night Out for the County of El Paso, Texas.”

EPCSO RESPONDS TO ASSAULT AT ASCARATE PARK

UPDATE:

The victim has been identified as Peter Baca 45 years of age.

The Sheriff’s Office is investigating this case as a homicide and the case remains open at this time.

The Sheriff's Office is requesting for anyone at Ascarate Park on the evening of Sunday, July 31st, 2016 who may have witnessed or have information regarding this incident to please contact the Sheriff's Office at (915) 546-2280.

El Paso, TX –  At approximately 11:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 31st, 2016, El Paso County Sheriff's Office patrol units were dispatched to Ascarate Park in reference to an assault.

One male victim was transported to University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Sheriff's Office Major Crimes Unit and Crime Scene Investigators were requested at the scene, at this time no other information is available.

The Sheriff's Office is requesting for anyone at Ascarate Park who may have witnessed or have information regarding this incident to please contact the Sheriff's Office at (915) 546-2280.
