     The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Community Service Section attended the “Welcome Home,” presentation for retired U.S Army Specialist Alex Ortiz on Tuesday, March 29, 2016.

     Alex Ortiz and his wife were presented with keys to a newly renovated, mortgage-free home in east El Paso, the home was donated by Bank of America to the Military Warriors Support Foundation and was given to the Ortiz’s through the Homes4WoundedHeroes program.

     Sheriff’s Office deputies presented the Ortiz’s with a house warming gift on behalf of Sheriff Richard Wiles and the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.

El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Community Service Section, Patrol deputies and Detention Officers showed their support during the Memorial Run on Saturday, March 26th, 2016.

Deputy Danny Dominguez placed 3rd place in his age group/category, and Detention Officer David Pena also took 3rd place in his age/category.

The race was held at Ascarate Park and is an annual event in memory of Trooper Javier Arana Jr, who was killed while on duty in El Paso on March 24th, 2012.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, Sheriff’s Advisory Board held its March meeting on Wednesday, March 23rd, 2016 at the Ronald McDonald House.  The Board works to maintain an open line of communication between the citizens of the El Paso County, Sheriff Wiles and the Sheriff’s Office.  During the meeting members of the board discussed upcoming projects within the office as well as other projects they are planning in the county.

            The members of the Sheriff’s Advisory Board in partnership with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Community Service Section distributed 20 + Easter baskets to the children of the Ronald McDonald House Charities of El Paso.

El Paso, TX –  El Paso County Sheriff's Office deputies were dispatch to the 8000 block of Doniphan Dr. in reference to a three motor vehicle accident at approximately 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 24, 2016.

The preliminary investigation determined a white Cadillac traveling southbound was attempting to make a left turn into the Dollar General store when it was rear-ended by a white PT Cruiser. The Cadillac then collided with a white Ford F-150 traveling northbound on Doniphan Dr. and the truck came to rest in the embankment in front of the store

.

One male driver was transported in serious condition and one female was transported with non-life threatening injuries. Doniphan Rd. between Jesse Riggs and Vinton Rd will be closed for approx. 2 hrs .

Special Traffic Investigators and crime scene investigators were requested at the scene, the investigation is open and ongoing.

DWI ENFORCEMENT DURING “SPRING BREAK”

During the “Spring Break” period, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office increased Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) enforcement. From March 4, 2016 to March 21, 2016 additional deputies were assigned to various areas throughout El Paso County to locate and arrest DWI drivers. The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office utilized funding provided by the Texas Department of Transportation, through the 2016 STEP Comprehensive Grant and 2016 Impaired Driving Mobilization Grant, to enhance their enforcement. A total of (42) drivers were arrested for driving while intoxicated offenses. Of the (42) arrests, (6) arrests were made under the 2016 Impaired Driving Mobilization Grant. (9) arrests were made under the 2016 STEP Comprehensive Grant. Additionally, one driver was arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance under 1 gram and Possession of Marijuana under 2 ounces.

Arrests made by the Sheriff’s Office during the reporting period are as follows:

-22 arrests for Driving While Intoxicated

-6 arrests for Driving While Intoxicated 2nd offense

-1 arrest for Driving While Intoxicated 3rd or more

-12 arrests for Driving While Intoxicated Breath Alcohol Content over .15

-1 arrest for Driving While Intoxicated with child under 15 years of age

42 TOTAL

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Major Crime Unit is requesting assistance in locating a Missing Person, please see attached.

On January 12, 2015 Cecilia Magaleno (60 YOA)   was reported as missing, her family is concerned about her health as they believe she does not have access to needed medications.  Mrs. Magaleno is diabetic and suffers episodes of Schizophrenia.

Some recent information is that Mrs. Magaleno has been seen around the alley ways behind Rafa’s Burritos 1831 Montana Ave. El Paso, TX. also around the 5 points area.  Anyone with any information please contact the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office (915) 546-2280.

Sheriff Richard Wiles, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Community Service Section, and Explorer Post 2005 participated in the 38th Annual Transmountain Optimist NorthEaster Parade on Saturday, March 26, 2016.

Sheriff Ricard Wiles, deputies, and explorers walked the parade route, met with the members of the community and passed out Easter sweets.

The Easter celebration was completed with the help from the Easter Bunny.

El Paso, TX – The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Target Response Unit is requesting assistance from the public in identifying the Offender involved in a Theft-Beer Run that occurred on Sunday, March 20th, 2016.

At approximately, 1:58 a.m. the unknown offender entered the Flying J convenience store located at 1301 Horizon in El Paso County, Texas and took two 18 packs of beer and walked out of the store without paying. The unknown offender fled in an older model possible pearl white, Cadillac Deville that was parked on the Southside of the convenience store parking lot.

The unknown offender was described as a Hispanic male in his early 20`s, medium build, light skin tone, bald, around 190 pounds and 5`8". The unknown offender was wearing a black T-shirt and jeans.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is asking if anyone has any information regarding this incident to contact the Sheriff’s Office you can remain anonymous by texting TIP 411 text the word "EPCSO" plus your tip/information to the number 847411.

The Sheriff’s Office wants to make the citizens of El Paso County aware of a telephone scam that has claimed several victims. Several people around El Paso County have received phone calls from a person claiming to be an employee of the “Sheriff’s Office”. The scammer claims that a jury summons was ignored and that there is a warrant for arrest. The victim is then told to buy Green Dot money cards for an undisclosed amount as a way to pay for the warrants and is asked to meet in front of the El Paso County Court House. After the victim purchases the money cards, the scammer claims that he/she cannot meet and requests the serial numbers displayed on the money cards so that the warrant can be taken care of. Those numbers are then turned into cash by the scammer depriving the victim of the money.

The Sheriff’s office would like to let citizens know that they will never receive a call requesting payment for outstanding criminal warrants.  If anyone has been a victim of this scam, please contact the proper authorities. El Paso Police Department non-emergency number is 915-832-4400 and El Paso County Sheriff’s Office non-emergency number is 546-2280.

El Paso, TX – El Paso County Sheriff’s Office deputies assigned to the East Montana Patrol Station along with the Sheriff’s Office Crime Victims Services and Center Against Sexual and Family Violence held a presentation for Montana Vista community members on Wednesday, March 21st, 2016.

The presentation was held at the Montana Vista Community and Resource Center located at 14618 Greg Dr. Community members were educated by personnel from the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office and the Center Against Sexual and Family Violence on the following topics; law pertaining to family violence, protective orders, and options after violence occurs including counseling and financial assistance. Community members were also educated on the importance of reporting all instances of family violence.

Deputies answered questions from the community members and left information pamphlets for future reference at the center.

El Paso, TX – The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Target Response Unit is requesting assistance from the public in identifying the Offender involved in a Theft-Beer Run that occurred on Saturday, March 19th, 2016.

At approximately 6:45 p.m., at the 7-11 convenience store located at 12901 Alameda, El Paso County, Texas, the store clerk stated that a subject entered the premises, walked to the back of the store, took one 18 pack of Bud Light beer valued at $15.99 and left without paying.

The subject was described as a Hispanic male, approximately 50-60 years old, 5`9" to 5`10" tall, with gray hair and was last seen wearing a gray plaid long sleeve shirt with dark blue jeans. The Offender fled the area in an older model full-size van with a ladder on the rear door and also pulling a trailer.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office is asking if anyone has any information regarding this incident to contact the Sheriff’s Office you can remain anonymous by texting TIP 411 text the word "EPCSO" plus your tip/information to the number 847411.

El Paso, TX – The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Region VIII Academy hosted an SRT (Special Response Team) School, March 14th – 18th, 2016 with 100 percent class graduation.

The school provided training to Sheriff’s Office Detention Officers, U.S Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agents, Arizona Department of Corrections Officers, the Florida-Tactical Operations Group and 12 detention officers from Brazil.

The 30 plus officers trained on the following:  One Man Cell Extractions, Two-Man Tactics extractions, Riot/Civil Disturbance, and Hostage and Rescue in a Correctional Setting.  Both Sheriff’s Office Jail Facilities, Region VIII Academy Range and El Paso Coliseum were used as training locations.

Officers will now return to their workplace and implement the techniques and lessons learned during the Special Response Team school.

Sheriff Richard Wiles and the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Community Service section are making Easter “MOBILE” with the 9th Annual Easter Bunny Visit. 

Sheriff Wiles and the Sheriff’s Office Community Service section will be bringing Easter to the children at the El Paso Children’s Hospital and University Medical Center on Friday, March 25th, 2016. The Easter Bunny will also be present during the visit and will help by distributing Easter Baskets and goodies to the children.

The 9th Annual Easter Bunny Visit will take place on Friday, March 25th, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. at the El Paso Children’s Hospital located at 4845 Alameda Ave.

El Paso, TX – El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Community Service Section along with the Canutillo Heights Neighborhood Watch Association (CHNWA) will be hosting their next neighborhood watch meeting on Saturday, March 19th, 2016.

Neighborhood Watch is one of the oldest and most well-known crime prevention programs, bringing citizens together with law enforcement to deter crime and make communities safer.

The Canutillo Heights Neighborhood Watch Association (CHNWA) will meet with the Sheriff’s Office Community Service Section deputies to address neighborhood issues and questions. Providing residents with direction to the proper resources to fix the issues and help their community prosper.

The meeting will be held on Saturday, March 19th, 2016, at 9:30 a.m., at 7370 Ninth Street, Canutillo, Texas. If you are a resident of this subdivision and would like to join the Canutillo Heights Neighborhood Watch Association, or are interested in starting your own neighborhood watch program you can contact the Sheriff’s Office Community Service Section at 915-852-4131.
