El Paso, TX - Sheriff Richard Wiles and the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office in partnership with the El Paso Community College Professional Staff Association and Police Department kick off the “Keep El Paso Warm,” blanket and coat drive.

The “Keep El Paso Warm,” blanket and coat drive will be accepting donations through Tuesday, November 10th, 2015. The drive will be collecting new blankets, new or slightly-used coats and warm clothing.

El Paso County Sheriff’s Office deputies will identify the families in need, and then distribute to those families out in the County of El Paso.

If you wish to donate any items you can drop them off at the following locations:

· Any EPCC Police Department Location

· ISC locations at any EPCC campus

· Marketing Office, room A100 in the Administrative Services Center

· Monetary donations can be made at any EPCC campus cashier by using the code PHOF.

El Paso, TX – Deputies with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office completed an 80 hour SWAT course October 12th – 23rd, 2015.

The course was held at the El Paso Police Academy, and is one of the most challenging courses physically and mentally for law enforcement.

The following deputies completed the course; Carlos Munoz, Julian Ochoa, Juan Ordonez and Mario Avila.

The course prepared deputies with the latest updates related to SWAT operations and tactics.

El Paso, TX – Sheriff Richard Wiles and the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office hosted a graduation ceremony for the Basic Peace Officer Academy, on Friday, October 23, 2015.

Sheriff Richard Wiles appointed the following as Deputy Sheriff’s Officers to be assigned to the Patrol Division:

El Paso, TX – The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office mentoring initiative with Bel Air High School graduates a new member as a 911 emergency dispatcher.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office in partnership with Bel Air High School operates the Communication’s Shadowing Program. The program allows for students interested in the law enforcement communications to volunteer and train as a 911 emergency dispatchers.

During the last term Cindy Ramirez volunteered her non-school hours to train with the Sheriff’s Office Communications Section. Ms. Ramirez had to receive Security Awareness Training and comply with all the requirements set for Sheriff’s Office employees. Ms. Ramirez went on to complete and graduate from the Communication’s Shadowing Program.

Sheriff Richard Wiles, and the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office welcome Cindy Ramirez as the newest member of our Communications Section as a 911 emergency dispatcher.

            El Paso, TX – Wednesday, October 21st, 2015, El Paso County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the 600 block of Gaviota, San Elizario, TX, in reference to a vicious dog.

            Upon arrival Sheriff’s Office deputies encountered a pitbull mix dog on the roadway. As deputies approached the residence to make contact with the dog’s owner, the dog began to charge in the direction of the deputy and bit the deputy several times on both right and left hands. To protect himself from further injury, the deputy discharged his duty weapon at the dog; striking it, but not killing the dog. 

            The deputy was transported to a local hospital for treatment to his injuries. The dog owner was cited for not being able to provide current vaccination paperwork on the dog. The dog was picked up by Sheriff’s Office Animal Control for quarantine.

            No further information is available at this time.

El Paso, TX – Wednesday, October 21st, 2015, at approximately 8:40 p.m., El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to the 800 block of East Main in Fabens, Texas in reference to an accident involving a train and vehicle.

            Upon arrival Sheriff’s Office deputies observed that a car had collided with a train. Two male occupants were in the vehicle at the time of the accident.

            Driver of the vehicle was driving on the dirt embankment along the 800 block of East Main, and then stopped on the railroad track. The vehicle became disabled and a short time later was struck by a Union Pacific train.

El Paso, TX– Sheriff Richard D. Wiles and the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office participated in the 5th Annual NAMIWalks 5K on Saturday, October 17, 2015.

Sheriff Richard Wiles was selected as the 2015 Honorary Chair of the 5th Annual NAMIWalks. The El Paso County Sheriff's Office Honor Guard did the presentation of colors during the pre-walk activities. Sheriff Wiles got things started at the walk by cutting the start ribbon, and the deputy cadets from the basic peace officer class 15-01 "Top Dawgs," led the walk.

NAMI is the National alliance on Mental Illness, the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness. NAMI El Paso is a state affiliate of the Nation’s Voice on Mental Illness.

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank our media partners for sharing the below image with their viewers.

We are happy to update you with a happy ending to our search. Dave Contreras of El Paso, called our office and identified the couple in the picture to be his mother and father.

The two individuals in the center of the picture are David and Raquel Contreras. Their son tells us that the picture was taken during their honeymoon somewhere in Mexico around 1952-1953.

David Contreras had just returned from serving with the U.S Army in the Korean War.

We are thrilled that we were able to reunite the picture with its owners.

Dave Contreras shared an additional picture of the couple on their wedding day. (see attached.)

El Paso, TX – El Paso County Sheriff’s Office detectives are asking for help in identifying a wanted suspect for credit card abuse.

On Sunday, September 13th, 2015 an unknown female used a lost credit card to conduct a gasoline purchase transaction. The suspect made the purchase at 7-11 convenience store in Fabens.
