On 04-28-14 just after 9:00am, a Sheriff’s Office Deputy was dispatched to 7019 First St. in Canutillo Tx in reference to child endangerment. The Deputy met with an employee of Child Protective Services (CPS) who told the deputy she was conducting a welfare check on a woman claiming to live there when she was met at the front door by a four year old girl. The CPS worker saw that the girl was home alone and called the Sheriff’s Office.

The deputy went inside the residence and observed the conditions were poor and not adequate for the child. During the investigation, the four year old’s mother arrived and it was determined. that the child was left unattended for approximately two hours. The mother identified as Evelin Herrera (28) was placed under arrest for Abandoning or Endangering Child with Intent to return. The child was turned over to her grandparents who lived nearby.
