EL PASO TEXAS- On 08-23-13 a Sheriff’s Deputy engaged in a short pursuit after a white Dodge Neon was seen traveling at a high rate of speed southbound at the 13300 block of Horizon Blvd., El Paso County, TX, and refused to stop. The vehicle continued at a high rate of speed passing an emergency vehicle where it nearly collided with a patrol unit who was on a traffic stop at Ashford & Horizon Blvd. The pursuit was terminated due to the vehicle’s exceeded speed. The description relayed by the Deputy resulted in the apprehension of the driver moments later during a traffic stop by a DPS trooper who spotted the Dodge Neon near Gateway West Blvd. & Eastlake. The driver/Jose Alcala was turned over to Sheriff’s Officials and charged with Evading Arrest/Detention with a Vehicle.

The EPCSO reminds citizens to be cautious when approaching a stationary authorized emergency vehicle or tow truck on the roadway/highway.
It is a violation to Pass Authorized Emergency Vehicles (TRANSPORATION CODE Sec. 545.157 ) when the driver fails to vacate to the lane closest to the emergency vehicle or tow truck when driving on a highway with two or more lanes when traveling in the direction of the vehicle; OR fails to slow down to a speed of;
A violation of TC Sec. 545.157 is punishable by a fine not less than $1 or more than $200. A fine of $500 if the violation results in property damage; A Class “B” misdemeanor if the violation results in bodily injury.
