PATROL BUREAU’S TRAFFIC SECTION RECEIVES UNIT CITATION

The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Section was established in 1991. Since then, their functions have increased substantially. The Officer’s assigned to this section are tasked with many different responsibilities; school Zone Enforcement, DWI enforcement grant operations, Click-It-Or-Ticket seatbelt grant enforcement, parade/special assignment traffic control, Office personnel funeral detail and specialized traffic concerns reported to the Office by members of the public.
Officers assigned to the Traffic Section also hold various certifications to include Intoxilyzer Operator, Standardized Field Sobriety Testing, Basic Accident Investigation, Advanced Accident Investigation, Accident Reconstructionist, and as of May 16, 2011, the Drug Recognition Expert Certification (DRE).
Through difficulty courses and keeping the highest standard of training and professionalism, the section has gone with an unseen one-hundred percent conviction rate in felonious incidents while providing a safer environment for citizens driving on roadways. The Traffic Section continues to strive to be the best trained officers, and for these reasons, the Traffic Section was recognized and presented with the Sheriff’s Unit Citation by the Patrol Bureau Commander Kevin Lanahan.
The “Unit Citation” is an award that is presented to a unit for their outstanding performance accomplishment as a result of a combined effort by members of the unit. It consists of a group Citation, which is posted in a prominent place in the unit's operational area(s), and a solid blue ribbon.
