EL PASO COUNTY, TEXAS- Beginning 2012, Detectives from the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office and El Paso Police Department’s Crimes against Property, White Collar Crimes unit were made aware of a large forgery ring operating in the El Paso and Las Cruces area. Detectives from both agencies worked diligently for several months following up on several leads involving the forgery ring. Suspects involved were printing fraudulent checks with bank account numbers of real businesses in and around the El Paso area. Some of these checks were made to look like the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Bond and Inmate Trust Section and several other companies. The checks would then be passed using fake identifying information and or identities.

On April 19, 2012 the combined investigation led Officers and Detectives from the El Paso Police Department and El Paso Sheriff’s Office to the arrest of Joshua Javier Navarro 30 years of age, of the 8300 Block of Leo Street, Northeast El Paso TX, and Carlos Chacon, 32, of Juarez Mexico Two other suspects were previously booked in connection with this case,Desirae Conrad, 20, of El Paso and Victor Cobos, 26, of Las Cruces New Mexico.

The monetary amount that this forgery ring had obtained from this scheme is greater than $100,000.00. The exact amount is unknown as the investigation is continuing……
