WHY: ROBBERY SUSPECTS CAUGHT

BACKGROUND:

WESTWAY, TX- Early Friday morning at about 5:20 AM, Sheriff's Deputies were called to the  Petro 2 Truck Stop located at 601 Westway- Westway, TX in reference to a robbery that had just occurred. Deputies arrived and met with store employees who told authorities 2 Hispanic Males entered the store where one of them displayed an unknown caliber handgun and demanded money from the clerk on duty. The suspects left the store with an undisclosed amount of money. Both suspects were described to be approximately 19-21 years of age & were both wearing dark colored hoodies. No employees were injured in the robbery. Sheriff's CID Detectives were summoned to the scene.

UPDATE: Late Friday night at about 11:00 PM, a Sheriff's Deputy conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 1100 block of Westway Blvd. Two Hispanic males occupants were in the vehicle. During the stop it was discovered one of them had 8 outstanding traffic warrants. A second Sheriff's Deputy rolled by to assist his partner. The Deputy who had also responded to the Robbery at the Petro 2 early Friday morning recognized the two suspects from the Petro II surveillance video. Marijuana was also found in the vehicle. Deputies placed both subjects under arrest and CID Detectives responded to the scene.

After interviewing both subjects, it was determined that both subjects were in fact the same ones involved in the Robbery. Both subjects were identified as ISIDRO MELENDEZ (20) of the 1300 block of CAMELIA CANUTILLO, TX &  CHRISTOPHER BARRON (17) of the 8600 block of REMINGTON WESTWAY, TEXAS. Both were booked & remain at the El Paso County Detention Facility on multiple charges.

EL PASO,TX-  Late Saturday night 01-24-09 into early Sunday morning 01-25-09, Sheriff Deputies along with Officials from the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission (TABC) & the U.S. Army Military Police AWOL Apprehension Section conducted bar checks at several East El Paso County establishments.

WHY: INVESTIGATION CONTINUES

BACKGROUND:

MONTANA VISTA- Late Wednesday morning at about 11:02 AM, Sheriff's Deputies were dispatched to a residence in the 3600 block of Vanderveer in Montana Vista reference to an open door. Deputies arrived and met with the caller who told authorities a neighbors residence / Victim who they knew to be out of town had an open door. Deputies made entry and conducted a protective sweep of the home and observed that several household items appeared to be missing and the home also appeared to have been ransacked.

A Sheriff's Deputy on scene who is also a member of the Sheriff's Office Search & Rescue Team & specializes in tracking was able to locate and follow two shoe impressions that led from the front door and all around the residence out of the driveway and ended at the paved street. The Deputy picked up the impressions again across the street leading to a home nearby. Deputies made contact with the homeowner and explained the situation. The resident was uncooperative with authorities.

Crime Against Property Detectives were summoned to the scene.

Deputies observed several vehicles in plain view located in the lot next to the residence. In an effort to confirm the residents identification, the vehicles (a 2002 White Cadillac Escalade and a Gray 2003 Ford F-250) were checked. Both vehicles came back as stolen.

Sheriff's Detectives arrived a short time later with the search warrant in hand. Upon searching the home, Sheriff's Officials found an large sum of money (over $30,000 in cash), several weapons which included handguns & a rifle, over a pound of marijuana & a small amount of cocaine, two stolen ATV's, several flat screen TV’s, computers, and other electronic equipment was found. All items were seized & recovered as evidence.

The resident was taken into custody & placed under arrest by Sheriff's Detectives. He was identified as 28 year-old Ricardo Lopez of the same 3600 block of Vanderveer El Paso County, TX.

It is with great sadness to announce the passing of Detention Officer Cesar Arreola.

Fallen BadgeOfficer Arreola (37) passed away early Sunday morning, January 18th , 2009. He was a 14 month veteran of the Sheriff's Office. Graduated top of his Detention Officer class in November 2007. Officer Arreola was also a Gulf War veteran & an active volunteer for Virgen De Guadalupe Catholic Church .

He is survived by his beloved wife of 16 years Martha, his 13 year-old daughter Jazmin and his 10 year-old son Angel.

INFORMATION:

On Saturday, January 17, 2009 at approximately 9:00 AM,  Officer Arreola was participating in the Special Reaction Team tryouts. Officer Arreola completed the assessment when he began feeling a shortness of breath and feeling light headed. Medical Staff on site began treating him & he was later transported to Sierra-Providence East where he remained until early this morning. Officer Arreola lost his life early this morning at about 5:00 AM.

Funeral arrangements are pending.

EL PASO, TX- Late 2005 / Early 2006, JORGE ACEVEDO went on a Forgery spree, using counterfeit checks resulting in thousands of dollars stolen from several local companies.

ACEVEDO's scheme began as he deceitfully posed as an independent contractor and was paid by check from each company. It is believed this is how he was able to ascertain the bank account numbers to the business accounts.

ACEVEDO has recently been spotted in our area as he remains on the run from Law Enforcement Officials.

ACEVEDO has previously been arrested for; FORGERY FINANCIAL INSTRUMENT, CREDIT CARD ABUSE, THEFT BY CHECK, FORGERY, THEFT OF GOVERNMENT PROPERTY, FUGITIVE FROM JUSTICE & PAROLE VIOLATION.

CANUTILLO, TXThursday night 01-15-09 at about 7:15 PM, Sheriff Deputies were dispatched to the 900 block Antelope, Westway, TX 79835 in reference to a shooting. Deputies arrived and immediately made contact with the Reporters / Victims.

After a brief investigation, it was learned the Victims had been involved in a verbal argument with other individuals (suspects) at an undisclosed location. Shortly after the initial argument, the suspects drove to the Victims’ home where they allegedly shot several rounds towards the victims who were standing outside the house.

No one was hurt or struck by any bullets, however, several neighbors / witnesses confirmed hearing gunshots. Deputies immediately canvassed the area searching for the suspects involved.

Detectives from the Sheriff's Criminal Investigation Division were summoned to the scene and have taken over the case.

EL PASO, TEXASLate Thursday afternoon 01-15-09 at about 5:00 PM, Jail personnel caught a visitor trying to smuggle various drugs and weapons into the jail which were concealed in an oxygen canister.

Apparently a 41 year-old woman was trying to drop off an Oxygen Concentrator and a CPAP machine for an inmate (husband) incarcerated at the facility. These machines are solely used for treating upper respiratory problems. Medical staff began inspecting all the parts on the machines it was found that there missing items. Further inspection revealed the contraband to be hidden within the machine.

The contraband consisted of about 200 various pain pills/barbiturates, 10 utility blades, one Buck knife, along with other miscellaneous contraband.

Sheriff Deputies were summoned to the scene and took custody of the 41 year-old woman.

The case was turned over to Sheriff's Detectives who arrested & charged 41 year-old Bernadette Valenzuela with 3 counts of Prohibited Substances & Items in a Correctional Facility - $15,000 BOND.

EL PASO, TEXAS- Late Tuesday evening Sheriff Detectives received an anonymous tip on the whereabouts of a subject listed on the CRIMESTOPPERS "MOST WANTED" list. The tip led Detectives to a residence located in the 400 block of Palmary El Paso,TX. Detectives made contact with the residents and advised they were looking for wanted subject David Morales (51). Fugitive Morales surrendered to authorities and was taken into custody without incident.

Detectives arrested David Morales (51) who was wanted on outstanding criminal warrants for MOTION TO REVOKE PROBATION - (INDECENCY w/ a CHILD & AGGRAVATED SEXUAL ASSAULT of a CHILD ). Morales was booked at the El Paso County Detention Facility.

CORDERO is wanted for the Offense of THEFT OF PROPERTY >$50 <$500

EL PASO, TX- Late April 2008, JOSE CORDERO and a female accomplice were arrested by the El Paso Police Department for shoplifting at a local Wal-Mart Department Store located 9441 Alameda El Paso, TX. 

CORDERO and the female were walking around the department store placing items in the woman's purse. The couple went as far as ordering potato wedges and popcorn chicken from the deli department, not paying for the items and proceeded to walk around the store eating while they shoplifted.

The couple attempted to leave the store without paying for some items but were stopped EPPD Officers who took them into custody. Some of the items taken included: perfumes, colognes, clothing & DVD's. All merchandise stolen with the exception of the food were eventually recovered.

CORDERO has violated the terms of his Probation & is currently on the run.

A warrant has been issued for the arrest of JOSE CORDERO (23) who is wanted for MOTION TO REVOKE PROBATION (THEFT o/$50 u/$500) -$10,000 BOND.

CORDERO is from the Fabens, TX area & has previously been arrested for; RESISTING ARREST, CRIMINAL MISCHIEF, EVADING ARREST, FAIL TO IFENTIFY, ASSAULT, & AGGRAVATED ASSAULT.

BACKGROUND:

SAN ELIZARIO,TX- Saturday afternoon, 01/10/2009 at 3:40 PM Sheriff Deputies were dispatched to the area of Stubbs and Thompson in El Paso County, TX in reference to an injured party. Deputies arrived minutes later and met with the Reporter who told & directed Sheriff's Officials to the location of an accident involving an All Terrain Vehicle (ATV). Deputies proceeded to the area of the Quemada Lateral Drain reference point 65.

Deputies along with First responders & Life Ambulance Medics arrived to the location of occurrence and found several area residents at the scene. Authorities found an unresponsive male subject on the ground who apparently had suffered an accident while riding his ATV.

Emergency services tended to the injured as Deputies began speaking with witnesses to find out what had occurred.

Further Investigation revealed the Victim (a 15 year-old male Juvenile) was riding his ATV at a high rate of speed when he suddenly lost control and struck an irrigation gate. The impact caused the Victim to be ejected from the ATV. The Victim was pronounced dead at the scene by the Medical Examiner. Next of kin notification was made a short time later.

The Victim was identified as HECTOR MARTIN HERNANDEZ JR. (15) of the 500 block of Catalonia San Elizario, TX.

Authorities have determined the severity of the impact and fall caused fatal injuries. The Victim was wearing a helmet.

MANHUNT MONDAY CLAIMS 5th CAPTURE

EL PASO, TX- Late Tuesday afternoon 01-06-08 at about 5:00 PM, Sheriff's Deputies took custody of Wanted Fugitive Jaime "Jimmy" Dominguez as he turned himself in to Sheriff's Officials. Dominguez was residing in Palmdale, California and was contacted by family members urging him to turn himself in after he was featured as the Sheriff's Office most wanted fugitive on this past Monday's (01/05) "MANHUNT MONDAY".

EP Times Dominguez was also featured as one of Crime Stoppers Most Wanted for the Sunday, January 4, 2009 edition of the El Paso Times.

Dominguez of the 500 of Gina Fabens, Texas is the FIFTH "MANHUNT MONDAY" fugitive captured. He remains incarcerated at the El Paso County Detention Facility under a $49,000 BOND.

BACKGROUND:

CLINT, TX- Early September 2008, Sheriff Deputies were called to the Clint exit (I-10 EAST EXIT 42) in reference to an assault. The Victim told Deputies he was out partying with two other friends & while driving home, his friend JAIME DOMINGUEZ pulled over at the Clint Exit. All 3 subjects then exited the vehicle when DOMINGUEZ & the other male subject suddenly proceeded to ASSAULT him, striking & kicking him for several minutes. The Victim was transported to the hospital via ambulance due to the severity of the injuries sustained in the assault.

The second subject involved in the assault was identified as JOSE CORDERO (24) of the 1200 block of Powell, Fabens, TX. He was arrested for this crime just a few days ago on 12-30-08. CORDERO has since posted the $49,000 BOND and is currently out of jail.
