Each of the district courts in the County has jurisdiction over criminal and civil cases. The court sets hearings for pleas, arraignments, summary judgments, default judgments, pre-trial hearings and motions. The Court is headed by a State District Judge who is elected to a four-year term by the voters of El Paso County.
Uncontested Divorces are heard every Friday from 9am to 12pm.
Dates we are unavailable are holidays and October 17th 24th and 31st.
Starting October 1st it is now required that attorneys bring their own interpreters as the county will no longer provide them as frequently.
- It is now required to schedule a hearing with the court for all Pre Trial requests.
- All initial cases involving children require the parents take the COPE class with the YWCA. Parents can contact the YWCA to schedule the class at 915-577-2530, ext. 468. The Court will not sign any Final Orders or Final Decrees without the parents proof that they took the COPE class.
- The Court and the Court staff are not allowed to give legal advice. All legal questions should be directed to an attorney.
